What is Phrasly.ai?

Phrasly.ai (styled Phrasly.AI by the company) is a browser-based AI humanizer: you paste a draft produced by ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or another model, and its proprietary models rewrite it so the wording reads more like a person wrote it. A free AI detector, a document editor, a content generator with citations, a plagiarism checker and a few study tools sit around that core, and a Business API exposes the humanizer and detector to developers. The service belongs to Phrasly LLC, a company registered in Delaware, United States.

The company frames the product in two different ways. In an archived copy of the homepage dated September 29, 2026, the page title reads "Phrasly: Best AI Detection Remover | AI Stealth Writer", and the API landing page says the humanizer is "Built to pass Turnitin, GPTZero, Copyleaks & more." Its terms of service take a different position on academic use, set out under Limitations.

The homepage invites visitors to join "5,000,000+ students and writers", a figure the company reports about itself. The API runs on the same engine that powers phrasly.ai, exposed as two REST endpoints.

Core features

According to the homepage, every tool in the suite comes with every Phrasly plan.

  • AI Humanizer: rewrites robotic or formulaic AI text with more varied sentence structure. Paid plans include up to 5,000 words per request with unlimited monthly humanization.
  • Phrasly Ultra: a newer humanizer model on every paid Phrasly plan, chosen from the model menu inside the Humanizer.
  • Ultra modes: five settings run from fewest changes to strongest rewrite: Gentle, Light, Balanced (the default), Strong and Max.
  • AI Detector: the integrated checker is described as completely free with unlimited usage and no caps; through the API it returns an overall AI probability plus a per-sentence breakdown.
  • AI Document Editor: write, humanize and check work in one editor.
  • Content Generator: drafts papers, blog posts or other content; a July 2026 pricing FAQ says it comes with 15 monthly credits and searches Google and Bing in real time for citations.
  • Plagiarism Checker: scans text against billions of pages.
  • Study and utility tools: a Flashcard Maker turns notes and readings into flashcards, and Phrasly Neo is described as a free chatbot that writes like a human and reads PDFs.

Models, training data and languages

Phrasly says its models are proprietary, but the training figure it quotes changes from page to page. The AI Humanizer page says the models are trained on "1M+ real human articles", while the homepage FAQ says "500k+ real human articles"; neither page explains the difference. The same humanizer page says Phrasly covers 20+ languages, each with a humanization model built for that language's writing patterns, and names English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Chinese, Russian and Japanese among them. For marketing copy, the company says it retains essential keywords during humanization.

Vendor benchmark for Ultra

Phrasly ran its own September 2026 benchmark for Ultra: on 72 AI-generated texts, Ultra averaged a 99.8% human score on the Pangram detector, with 70 of the 72 rated entirely human, while three other humanizers averaged 50% or less. The same test counted facts that each humanizer added or altered; Ultra averaged 0.85 per rewrite against 2.64 for the next closest tool. These are vendor-run results, not an independent evaluation.

Guide

Humanizing a draft in the web app

To humanize AI text in the browser, the flow has three steps:

  1. Copy text from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, Groq or another AI writing tool and paste it into the Phrasly input box. Guests can try a few humanizations before signing up.
  2. Click Humanize. The rewritten text appears in the right panel as it is written; paid users can switch the model to Ultra and pick a mode first.
  3. Run the built-in AI Checker on the output, make final edits, then copy or export the content.

Long documents and batch work through the API

  • The humanize endpoint takes 20 to 5,000 words per request, so longer documents have to be split at paragraph boundaries and each part humanized separately.
  • On the standard model, paragraphs under 15 words are passed through unchanged, which keeps headings intact after a rewrite.
  • Setting the stream option to true returns the text as it is generated instead of in one block.
  • Batches can also run without code by uploading a CSV in the dashboard to humanize or scan many texts in one run.

Phrasly.ai use cases and examples

The company names essays, articles, blog posts, emails, reports and creative writing as the content that works best, whether the starting point is an AI draft or text written from scratch. Its own pages describe four scenarios:

  • Student drafts: the humanizer page pitches refining ChatGPT or Claude drafts into polished academic writing. The same page says Phrasly is designed to improve writing quality, not to replace original thinking, and tells students to follow their institution's AI rules and cite AI assistance where required.
  • Marketing and SEO copy: blog posts, emails and reports, with target keywords kept in place during the rewrite.
  • Automated publishing pipelines: the API can add a humanize step to a CMS or publishing workflow so every draft is rewritten before it ships, with no one in the loop.
  • Integrity and detection products: education platforms can flag AI-generated submissions with sentence-level detection scoring inside an existing review workflow.

A further API scenario is reselling. Phrasly says many of the humanizers on the market already run on its engine, and that API output carries no Phrasly attribution, watermarking or branding, which lets another company launch a humanizer under its own name without training a model.

Who is it for

Phrasly.ai suits individual writers who post-process AI drafts and developers who want the same engine metered per word.

Likely fits

  • Students and professionals who draft with AI and want the output to read less mechanically, provided their school or employer allows that kind of editing.
  • Content creators and marketers producing at scale, a group the company names in its own profile.
  • Non-native English speakers looking to improve their writing, also on that list.
  • Teachers who only need a detector: the ethics page says the AI detector is free so teachers can better understand AI-generated content.
  • Developers, agencies and humanizer resellers who need an API rather than a web app.

Poor fits

  • Teams that want to share one login: organizations needing multiple users must buy separate plans for each person or arrange an enterprise agreement.
  • Anyone planning to automate a personal plan: in a public reply on a review platform, Phrasly said running a personal plan through unattended scripts is not allowed and pointed automated work to its business plans.
  • Students whose institution treats AI rewriting as misconduct, a use the terms disown.
  • Minors without supervision: minors (generally under 18) need permission from, and direct supervision by, a parent or guardian.

Platforms

  • Web app: the company's own profile says it works online with nothing to download or install.
  • Business API: the AI humanizer API is a REST API with two POST endpoints (humanize and detect), API key authentication and JSON request bodies. Creating API keys requires an active subscription.
  • API limits: the detection endpoint needs at least 50 words and accepts up to 15,000 characters per request. Requests are capped at 5 per second (300 per minute) per key, counted separately for each endpoint.
  • API model versions: the API models can change over time and may differ from those in the phrasly.ai app, and Ultra is not included by default; access is arranged with the sales team.
  • Chrome extension: "Phrasly - Human Auto Typer", published by PHRASLY LLC, types prepared content into web text fields at a human pace, adding small timing variations and typing errors. As captured on October 6, 2026, the listing showed 3,000 users and version 1.0.1, updated June 1, 2026.

Pricing

The most recent archived copy of the pricing page, dated July 12, 2026, lists two consumer plans without visible prices. 3 Day Access is pitched as the option for individuals who want to try the AI tools, and Unlimited is the full subscription. The company's own profile on a review platform says unlimited humanizations start at $10.99/month.

Feature (archived copy, July 12, 2026)3 Day AccessUnlimited
AI humanizationUnlimited words, up to 50 uses per dayUnlimited
Content Generator wordsUp to 6,000Up to 30,000 per month
Words per process8005,000
Plagiarism Check wordsNot listed20,000 per month
"Advanced AI Detection Bypass"ListedListed

The homepage FAQ says paying for a year upfront saves up to 60% compared with monthly billing. Without paying, guests get three humanizations of 15 to 500 words each; those uses are shared across Phrasly's guest humanizer pages and limited per network.

Trial, renewal and refunds

These rules come from the terms of service (last updated April 10, 2026; archived copy dated July 9, 2026):

  • New users without a previous paid subscription can start a 3-day trial by paying a non-refundable $2.00 USD fee.
  • During the trial, users get up to 50 humanization uses per day, resetting at 12:00 AM UTC.
  • If the trial is not canceled before it ends, the account is automatically charged the full subscription amount.
  • The trial is limited to one per user, household and payment method.
  • Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and cancellation requests must be submitted at least 30 minutes before the next renewal or trial-end charge because the payment processor locks charges in advance.
  • Billing emails come from Paddle, the merchant of record, not from Phrasly itself.
  • Refunds are offered within 14 days only when the account has had absolutely no usage, meaning no documents processed and no API calls.
  • Switching from monthly to yearly billing immediately charges the full prorated amount.

Business API pricing

ItemPrice
Subscription$100 per month, including $100 in API credits that reset each billing cycle
Humanize$0.14 per 1,000 words
Detect$0.02 per 1,000 words

The company says the included credits cover up to 714,000 humanization words or 5,000,000 detection words. Usage is billed on the word count of the input text. Beyond the included credits, usage is billed at the same per-word rates through autopay top-ups; with autopay off, requests return a 429 error until the next cycle.

Phrasly.ai alternatives

Which substitute fits depends on whether you need a rewriter or only a detector:

  • Undetectable AI: the closest like-for-like product. It offers an AI detector and an AI humanizer and also lists a human-typer tool, so it overlaps with Phrasly's humanizer, detector and auto-typer extension.
  • GPTZero: a detector rather than a rewriter. It checks content from Claude, ChatGPT, GPT-5, GPT-6 and Gemini and also checks writing quality, which suits teachers and editors who only need detection.

Phrasly and Undetectable AI both sell rewriting, so the comparison comes down to price, per-request word caps and trial terms. GPTZero sits on the other side of the problem and is one of the detectors Phrasly's marketing names as a target.

Limitations

Detector results are not guaranteed

Phrasly's terms say it cannot guarantee its text will always pass AI detectors, citing constantly evolving detection tools and their potential for false positives. The terms also say it cannot be held responsible if its AI-generated text is flagged. The API reference repeats the point: detectors change and produce false positives, no result on any specific detector is guaranteed, and detection scores are probabilistic estimates.

Detector makers have responded directly. GPTZero, a commercial competitor, said in a December 23, 2024 review that its detector can identify Phrasly's paraphrased text and label it "possible AI paraphrase detected". Turnitin announced on August 27, 2025 that its AI writing detection now includes bypasser detection for text modified by humanizer tools, an announcement about the category that does not name Phrasly. On the other side, the July 2026 pricing FAQ claims independent audits have confirmed Phrasly stays compliant with all major AI detection systems, including Turnitin.

Academic-integrity boundary

The terms condemn using the tool for academic dishonesty or cheating and state that Phrasly does not support circumventing educational AI detection systems when they are used to prevent academic misconduct. The same company lists "Advanced AI Detection Bypass" as a plan feature, so both positions appear on its own pages.

Account and usage rules

  • Accounts are for individual use, and multiple users accessing a single account within any 24-hour period violates the terms.
  • Unauthorized account sharing leads to immediate account termination without refund.
  • Bots, scripts and other automated access are prohibited.
  • "Unlimited" humanization after the trial is subject to fair use and an Acceptable Use Policy.

Privacy and data rights

  • The ethics page says Phrasly does not use user content to train its models.
  • The homepage FAQ says content is processed securely and that Phrasly does not store or share users' writing.
  • The privacy policy still carries a last-updated date of June 29, 2023. In the archived copy reviewed, its sentence on server location ends without naming a country.
  • The privacy policy says Phrasly has not sold or shared personal information for a business or commercial purpose in the preceding 12 months.
  • API customers may not use the API or its output to train or improve AI models.
  • For the auto-typer extension, the developer has disclosed that it will not collect or use user data.

What reviewers report

On a third-party review platform, Phrasly.AI held a 4.7 rating from 3,566 reviews as captured on October 6, 2026, with 92% five-star and 7% one-star ratings. The platform notes that the company has not invited customers recently, so the reviews may not be representative. Its AI-generated summary of 1,775 reviews is largely positive, but it says some reviewers were unhappy with the accuracy of the detection tools, with human-written work sometimes labelled as AI.

FAQ

Q1. Is Phrasly.ai free to use?

Partly. The AI detector is free for every account and guests get three short humanizations; unlimited humanization, Phrasly Ultra and larger word caps need a paid plan or the $2.00 USD trial.

Q2. Will Phrasly.ai text pass Turnitin or GPTZero?

Not guaranteed. The company markets its humanizer as built to pass those detectors, but its terms say passing cannot be guaranteed, and both detector makers say they can flag humanized text.

Q3. How do I avoid being charged after the trial?

Cancel before the 3-day trial ends, and at least 30 minutes before the scheduled charge. Otherwise the full subscription amount is charged automatically, and the $2.00 USD trial fee itself is non-refundable.

Q4. Does Phrasly.ai train on my text?

Its ethics page says it does not use user content to train its models; the archived privacy policy reviewed does not address training.
