Spline is a browser-based 3D design tool for building interactive 3D scenes and 2D interfaces and shipping them to the web, iOS and Android without writing code. It combines two editors in one product: a 3D editor for modeling, materials, lighting, animation and physics, and Hana, a 2D canvas for interfaces and animated graphics. The service is owned and operated by Spline, Inc., a Delaware corporation.
Spline 3D was launched in 2020 by co-founder Alejandro Leon and joined a 2021 Y Combinator batch. In July 2023 the company announced a $15 million seed round led by Gradient Ventures. Coverage of that round described Spline as competing with incumbent tools such as Blender and Cinema 4D.
Two points shape most buying decisions: AI features draw on monthly credits included with paid plans, and Spline's terms and privacy policy both provide for using user content in AI model training.
The no-code event system and the Code tab are meant to work together rather than replace each other: designers can wire clicks, scroll and collisions visually, while developers add HUDs, game logic or data handling in the same file without leaving the editor.
Hana is a 2D canvas for interfaces and animated graphics with vector networks, effects, typography and 3D shapes lifted out of flat vectors. It shares the 3D editor's interactivity model and publishing pipeline.
The agent builds and edits scenes through the editor's own commands, so every edit it makes is a normal editor edit that lands in undo history, syncs to collaborators and can be taken over at any point. Its model tiers run from Fast up to Ultra Max and Astra, the highest-quality and most expensive options. A separate effort setting ranges from Minimal to Max. Higher tiers and effort spend more credits, which ties model choice directly to plan cost.
Higher compression levels can reduce geometric precision or quality, so the Performance setting trades some fidelity for faster loading.
Spline publishes several customer stories that show where an interactive 3D website or brand visual fits. These are vendor-published case studies, so they describe intended workflows rather than independently measured results.
On a third-party review platform, Spline holds a 4.6 rating based on 31 product reviews, as captured on October 5, 2026. The platform's AI-generated summary of those reviews says reviewers mostly find it easy and capable for beginners, while some report a real learning curve for people without 3D experience. With 31 reviews, the sample gives a direction rather than a firm quality verdict.
Spline pricing is per seat per month, with a free plan, three self-serve paid tiers and a custom Enterprise tier.
| Plan | Billed yearly (per seat/month) | Billed monthly (per seat/month) | Notable additions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Limited personal files, unlimited file viewers, web exports with a watermark, Spline Library access |
| Hobby | $12 | $15 | Unlimited 3D and 2D files, video upload, no watermark on web exports, higher-resolution image exports |
| Pro | $25 | $30 | Unlimited folders and projects, video export, unlimited scenes per file, Apple and Android exports |
| Max | $60 | $70 | More weekly media generation, larger video uploads, higher MCP tool call limits |
| Enterprise | Custom, billed yearly | Not shown | Centralized billing, multiple teams with team privacy, SAML SSO, code and self-hosted exports, file version history |
Included AI credits are 2,000 per month on Hobby, 3,000 on Pro, 10,000 on Max and a custom amount on Enterprise. Every AI feature, including the 3D agent, AI 3D generation, AI textures and Hana's generate prompt, draws on one shared monthly credit pool for the workspace. AI 3D generation is a paid feature that runs on the credits included with Hobby, Pro and Max.
Credit use is not a fixed price per model: one finished model spends credits on both the image previews and the mesh, so it can cost more than one generation, and longer agent runs spend more than short ones. Each plan's allowance can be raised in steps of 1,000 credits. In the pricing page's default yearly view, the first extra 1,000 monthly credits on Hobby is listed as +$48 per year; the monthly-billing price of extra credits is not shown in that view.
The former Spline AI Add-on is no longer sold separately, because AI access is now part of each plan. Older Professional and Team subscriptions still count as Pro for feature access.
All payments are non-refundable unless Spline decides otherwise. There are no partial refunds for unused time in a billing period. A cancelled subscription stays active until the end of the current billing cycle. Spline sends an email reminder at least seven days before each annual renewal.
These three tools come up as Spline rivals in independent listings and press coverage, each serving a different need.
| Tool | What it is | Key difference from Spline |
|---|---|---|
| Blender | Free and open source 3D creation software | No subscription fee at all, while Spline's AI credits and app exports require per-seat paid plans |
| Vectary | An online design platform for AI-assisted concepts, interactive 3D presentations and AR experiences | Headline outputs are 3D presentations and AR, whereas Spline adds native app builds for Apple and Android |
| Rive | An editor for interactive UI, motion and game experiences that run natively on mobile, desktop, web, consoles, TVs and vehicles | Runtime targets extend to consoles, TVs and vehicles, beyond Spline's web, Apple and Android outputs |
Yes, there is a $0 plan for manual design work, but its web exports carry a watermark and its feature list includes no AI credits. AI 3D generation is a paid feature that starts with the Hobby plan.
For individual accounts, content training is on by default and can be switched off in Personal Settings. From October 29, 2026, the updated terms also let Spline use de-identified data derived from user content for model training.
Payments are non-refundable unless Spline decides otherwise, and unused time is not refunded; access continues until the billing cycle ends.
