What is AI Realm?

AI Realm is a browser-based AI game master for text roleplaying games: you create a character, open a campaign and type what that character does, while the AI Game Master narrates the story and runs combat in D&D 5e inspired adventures.

The rules layer is built on D&D 5e SRD (2014) content, covering character classes, spells, skills and combat, so players who know fifth edition will recognize the structure. AI Realm states that it is not affiliated with Dungeons and Dragons or Wizards of the Coast. AI Realm and its software are owned by AI REALM LLC or its licensors. The AI Game Master itself is powered by third-party AI services.

AI Realm Version 2 redesigned the Notes system around NPC Cards, a visual Character Sheet, custom sheet design and auto-updating notes. AI Realm reports 766K+ campaigns created and 22K+ Discord community members (company figures, as captured on October 5, 2026). A third-party AI tool directory estimates 786.0K monthly visitors to the site, also as captured on October 5, 2026.

Core features

AI Realm's feature set is organized around one idea: the campaign state lives in Notes, and the AI reads whatever is enabled there. All enabled Notes content shares one context limit, which starts at 70,000 characters on the free plan and rises on higher plans; disabled items stay stored but do not count.

Notes tabs

  • Character Sheet: Any stat, skill or weapon on the sheet can be clicked to roll dice with 3D animations, and inventory items are matched automatically against more than 2,000 item icons.
  • Character Data and auto-updates: Stats, abilities, equipment, backstory and preferences sit in sections and folders, and the AI auto-updates this data during play when you gain items, lose HP or advance quests.
  • Campaign Summary: The AI writes a running campaign summary and refreshes it roughly every 8 messages; you can edit it or condense it with an AI Summarize button.
  • GM Guides: Reference documents tell the AI how to run dungeon layouts, homebrew rules, plot guides with hidden clues, regions and factions, and each guide can be switched on or off.
  • NPC Cards: Each NPC card stores details and a portrait, holds up to 30,000 characters, and can carry color-coded labels for location, faction or relationship.
  • Sheet Editor: An AI designer can modify or fully redesign the sheet's layout, colors and features, and an Explore tab offers community-shared sheet designs.
  • Snapshots: Each snapshot spends one image generation credit to turn a scene description into an AI-generated picture, optionally styled after earlier snapshots.
  • Custom Voices: Custom TTS voices for the narrator and individual characters only work when the lifelike or hybrid TTS type is selected in Settings.
  • Music: A built-in player offers free background tracks in categories such as Adventuring, Mystery, Battle and Tavern.

AI models and story control

  • Model library: AI Realm advertises 29 storytelling AI models and 3 custom image generators.
  • Switching models: A newly selected model reads the full conversation history and continues the story, though the narrator's personality may shift slightly.
  • Auto-update engines: Free, Bronze and Platinum plans process note updates with DeepSeek-V3.2, while Emerald and Obsidian use Grok-4.1 Fast; neither tier charges extra messages for auto-updates.
  • Per-campaign GM persona: The GM's avatar, name and DM preferences are set per chat, while the selected model applies globally to all of your chats.
  • GM style preferences: A free-form field lets you tell the AI how to run the game, for example asking it to call for rolls, track what NPCs know or favor puzzles.
  • Editing and rewinding: Editing an AI reply changes only that message, but editing one of your own messages deletes everything after it and regenerates, which lets you rewind about 7-15 messages.

Guide

Starting a campaign

  1. Click New Chat; each chat is a separate campaign, and nothing that happens in one affects another. Choose Singleplayer or Multiplayer at this point.
  2. In Singleplayer, pick a world setting: the default fantasy world, a cyberpunk mystery, or a custom world you describe.
  3. Choose a fantasy class and a race, or create your own race, then set your character's name, gender and alignment.
  4. Roll ability scores from 3 to 18, use Reassign to Recommended to sort them for your class, or type values in by hand; every stat stays editable after creation.
  5. Roll hit points, or enter any HP value you like, since the HP range has no fixed limits.
  6. Select proficiencies, starting equipment and spells; the options depend on your class, so a Barbarian, for instance, gets no spell choices.
  7. Write a backstory and let the AI expand it if you want more detail, then describe your character's appearance for the portrait.
  8. Wait a few minutes while the AI creates the character portrait and an opening quest.
  9. Type what your character says or does in the text box at the bottom of the screen, and the AI replies with how the world and its characters react.

Keeping a long campaign consistent

  • Disable any NPC you will not meet in the next 5-10 messages and re-enable it later, which keeps context free for what is happening now.
  • When the AI contradicts recorded facts or preferences, telling it to review your character data is the documented fix.

AI Realm use cases and examples

  • Solo RPG nights in a ready-made world: The default world, Al'mundi, is a high-fantasy setting made for AI Realm, while Cyberpunk Mystery opens a choice of ten different cyberpunk settings with their own mysteries.
  • Playing inside a favorite fictional universe: A Custom world can be described from scratch or simply named after an established setting from a book, show, movie or video game, and an option lets the AI expand a short description.
  • Settings the models already know: The AI models have been trained on internet content up to mid-2024, so a setting that existed before then usually needs little explanation, while niche or original worlds benefit from more detail.
  • Short sessions with friends: Multiplayer lets the host and up to three friends, depending on the chosen plan, share one campaign.
  • Running other game systems: The character-data and sheet system is game-agnostic, so players can organize data for Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu or homebrew rules and design a matching sheet.

Who is it for

AI Realm suits players who want an AI dungeon master on demand and are willing to curate notes so the story stays consistent.

  • Players without a regular table: One player quote featured on the homepage describes using it "when I need my DND fix but my dungeon master or other players aren't available."
  • Newcomers and veterans alike: The setup is pitched at both long-time tabletop players and people trying a text RPG with an AI GM for the first time.

It is a weaker fit in a few cases:

  • Households wanting filtered content: According to the Player's Guide, most AI models will do spicy roleplay besides ChatGPT. No minimum age or age check appears in the Terms, Privacy Policy or guides reviewed.
  • Groups of five or more: Multiplayer tops out at the host plus three friends.
  • Players who want map-based tactical combat today: Combat is narrated in text, and a Combat Mode that would add a virtual tabletop combat experience sits under future updates on the roadmap.

Platforms

AI Realm runs in the web browser on desktop and mobile.

  • Home-screen app: AI Realm can be added to the home screen on both iOS and Android to open like a native app, full screen and without browser controls.
  • How to install: On iPhone or iPad, use Safari's Share button and choose Add to Home Screen; on Android, open Chrome's three-dot menu and select Add to Home screen.
  • Sign-in requirement: Sign-in uses a Google account, and the site has to be opened in an external browser such as Chrome or Safari rather than inside another app's built-in browser.
  • Native Android app: An Android app is listed as an ongoing item on the roadmap last updated September 14, 2026. As of October 5, 2026, no App Store or Google Play listing from AI REALM LLC was found.
  • Desktop-only extras: The Notes sidebar, which keeps the character sheet visible while you play, needs a desktop screen at least 992px wide; phones use the full Notes window instead.
  • Best device for heavy editing: Large notes reorganizations are recommended on a desktop or tablet, while mobile is described as fine for everything else.
  • Support channel: Bug reports go to the bugs channel of the AI Realm Discord, which is not meant for AI misbehavior.

Pricing

AI Realm has a free plan, and creating an account does not require a credit card. Paid tiers are named Bronze, Platinum, Emerald and Obsidian, but their prices are not listed on AI Realm's public homepage, guides, roadmap or terms as of October 5, 2026. What the public documentation does publish is how each tier changes campaign capacity:

PlanBase contextListed "With DeepSeek"NPC Cards per chatGM Guides per chatAuto-update tier
Free70,000 chars98,000 chars2525Standard
Bronze70,000 chars98,000 chars5050Standard

Emerald100,000 chars140,000 chars100100Advanced
Obsidian150,000 chars210,000 chars200200Advanced

Hitting the NPC cap means deleting NPCs or upgrading before you can create new ones.

Premium models require a subscription, although everyone can browse the full model list. Each model card shows its cost per message, free or premium, and how many messages you have sent with it. The AI Guide Generator uses 1 message per generation, and the AI Data Assistant costs 1 normal message per use. Lifelike text-to-speech has its own allowance, with remaining characters shown under Account.

Refunds may be granted depending on the reason but are not guaranteed, and unless the law requires otherwise, all purchases on AI Realm are final.

AI Realm alternatives

The closest comparisons are other AI game masters built on 5e-style rules and open-ended AI story games; group size and how combat is presented separate them most clearly.

  • Friends & Fables: A party of up to 6 players can adventure together, compared with AI Realm's host plus three friends. Its tactical turn-based combat, based on D&D 5e rules, adds battlemaps, spells, abilities and monsters, whereas AI Realm narrates fights in text. It also offers thousands of player-made worlds to explore alongside its own world-building tools.
  • AI Dungeon: Latitude's AI Dungeon is a free AI text adventure game built around open-ended stories, played online or in its app, a closer fit for open-ended storytelling than for 5e mechanics.

Limitations

Memory and AI output

  • Output reliability: AI Realm warns that AI-generated content may be inaccurate, inconsistent, unexpected, or incomplete.
  • Notes as memory: The Notes system is the AI's long-term memory, and anything not recorded in Notes will eventually be forgotten.
  • Context ceiling: When total enabled context exceeds the plan limit, you are prompted to cut it down before the campaign can continue.
  • Section size cap: A Character Data section is rejected if you try to save it above 30,000 characters, so large entries have to be split.
  • Auto-updates stay on: Auto-updates cannot currently be switched off; preferences can only narrow what the AI changes, or ask it not to update anything.
  • World descriptions: Custom world descriptions work best under 5000 characters, because longer ones can confuse the AI and cause details to be missed.
  • Regeneration model: A regenerated reply always uses Gemini unless the ChatGPT model is selected.
  • Multiplayer world: Multiplayer games cannot choose a world; they start in the default Al'mundi setting, which the company says will change.

Terms, rights and privacy

  • Your content: Users keep whatever rights they have in their content but grant AI REALM LLC a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, modify and distribute it as needed to operate, improve, moderate and provide the service.
  • Third-party IP: You are responsible for making sure that anything you create or share through AI Realm does not infringe anyone else's rights, which matters for campaigns built on existing franchises.
  • Changing terms: AI Realm can modify its Terms of Service at any time without prior notice.
  • Governing law: The Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Ohio.
  • Data collected: AI Realm may collect your name, email address and IP address, plus information about your character creation and gameplay activities.
  • How data is used: Beyond running the service, this information may be used to analyze trends, track user movements and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use.
  • Sharing: Personal information is not sold, traded or otherwise transferred to outside parties unless advance notice is given, but it may be shared with trusted third parties that help operate the site.
  • Model training: The Privacy Policy does not say whether chats are used to train AI models.
  • Account deletion: Deletion is requested by email from the account's address with the subject "Account Deletion Request", and requests are processed within 30 days.
  • What is deleted: Deletion covers your name, email, Google account ID and profile picture, all created characters and their chat histories, settings and custom voices.
  • What is kept: Transaction records stay with the payment processors, Stripe and Google Play, linked to an anonymized user ID.
