Every major Claude update through July 2026: the Claude 5 family, Reflect dashboard, MCP upgrade, Claude Code milestones, pricing and access.
The Claude 5 era is here. Anthropic crossed its flagship lineup into the 5 family this summer: Fable 5 (June 9), Sonnet 5 (June 30) and Opus 5 (July 24). Opus 5 brings a 1M-token context window, up to 128K output tokens and adaptive thinking by default — at the same $5/$25 per-million-token pricing as its predecessor.
Beyond models: a new Reflect usage dashboard, support for the MCP 2026-07-28 spec, and a steady stream of Claude Code workflow upgrades.
Anthropic released Claude Opus 5 on July 24, 2026, succeeding Opus 4.8 as the Opus-tier flagship:
A built-in dashboard that visualizes how you use Claude — topics you discuss, usage patterns, and the kinds of tasks you delegate to AI. Rolling out across Claude plans.
Claude now supports the newest Model Context Protocol revision: a stateless core, stronger OAuth/OIDC authorization, versioned extensions for Apps and Tasks, plus connector upgrades (embedded UI, enterprise-managed auth, observability, private network tunnels).
| Benchmark | Sonnet 4.6 | Sonnet 5 | Opus 4.8 |
|---|---|---|---|
| SWE-bench Pro (agentic coding) | 58.1% | 63.2% | 69.2% |
| OSWorld-Verified (computer use) | 78.5% | 81.2% | — |
| GDPval-AA v2 (knowledge work) | — | 1,618 | 1,615 |
Sonnet 5's 1,618 on knowledge work edges Opus 4.8's 1,615. A mid-tier model matching the previous flagship on general knowledge work is the strongest signal yet that Anthropic's capability gains are landing in the tier most people actually pay for.
Introductory $2/$10 per million tokens through August 31, 2026, then $3/$15 — identical to what Sonnet 4.5 cost at launch in September 2025. Same price, substantially more capability, eleven months later.
Opus 5 shipped at $5/$25, exactly matching Opus 4.8. Flagship price stability across two generations while the mid tier absorbs the capability gain is the same pattern visible at Google and, since July 30, at OpenAI.

Claude Code has evolved from a CLI tool into the center of Anthropic's agentic-coding push:
Claude Code reached a $2.5B annualized run-rate within nine months of GA — reportedly the fastest developer-product growth on record — and holds 46% developer preference against Cursor's 19%. Workplace adoption went from 3% in April 2025 to 18% by January 2026.
Copilot holds 42% market share with the lowest revenue per user of the three majors; Claude Code leads preference by a wide margin on a fraction of the seats. That gap is the most unstable equilibrium in the coding-tools market, and it resolves one of two ways: share shift, or repricing.

| Model | Input / Output per 1M | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Opus 5 | $5 / $25 | Unchanged from Opus 4.8 |
| Sonnet 5 | $2 / $10 | Introductory through Aug 31; then $3 / $15 |
Claude Pro subscription pricing is unchanged. Enterprise and Team tiers are contact-sales, and Mythos 5 requires organizational approval — a vetted-access frontier tier that may become an industry template.
September 1, 2026: Sonnet 5 reverts from $2/$10 to $3/$15. Budgets built on introductory pricing need the 50% increase modeled before then, not after.
Anthropic's cadence through 2025–2026 has been roughly one significant model release per quarter, with the Opus 4.x line iterating monthly in H1 2026 before the jump to 5. Expect the 5 family to follow a similar refinement path — and watch the MCP ecosystem, where the spec is now versioned for long-lived enterprise deployments.
