Workable is agentic software for recruiting and HR: an AI agent sources, screens and engages candidates inside the Workable ATS, while the same platform also holds employee records and HR workflows. The company says more than 35,000 companies have used its all-in-one HR platform to find, hire and manage their people.
The product is operated by Workable Software Limited, a company registered in England and Wales. For an AI tool directory, the relevant part is the AI layer: the paid Workable Agent that runs the top of the hiring funnel, plus a set of smaller AI features (job descriptions, candidate recommendations, screening summaries, outreach emails) that sit inside the regular plans.
Two points shape most buying decisions:
The Workable Agent is the headline AI recruiting agent. It works inside the applicant tracking system rather than as a separate chatbot, so it acts on the same jobs, pipelines and permissions as the hiring team.
Guardrails are part of the design rather than an add-on. The agent scores job criteria and qualifications only; Workable says protected characteristics are excluded by design and low-confidence inferences pass to a human. Candidates are always told they are talking to an AI; this disclosure is built into every email and chat and cannot be removed. Admins also have an account-wide switch: Super Admins and Recruiting Admins can turn AI features off in one setting, and the agent then becomes unavailable to every user on the account.
Several AI features predate the agent and do not depend on AI credits:
The agent reads from a full ATS: requisitions, sourcing, pipelines, interviews, offers and reporting. Job ads can be distributed to 200+ job boards from one place. On the HR side, Workable covers onboarding, performance, time off, attendance, employee records and payroll reporting in the same system, so data captured during hiring carries into the employee record.
Agent features only work on jobs created with the agent, so the setup starts in the job creation flow:
An existing live job can also be upgraded to an agentic job, and the agent can then process the candidates already in its pipeline.
Workable positions the platform for a few concrete hiring situations:
Workable describes its fit as any company that cares about time-to-value and ease-of-use and wants something fast to implement and easy to adopt. In practice the evidence points to these groups:
It is a weaker fit for teams hiring mainly in languages other than English, because the Workable Agent doesn't support languages other than English yet. The rest of the product offers 9 native language options on its plans, so this limit applies to the agent specifically.
Workable pricing depends on company size (nine bands from 1–20 up to 1000+ employees), on whether Recruiting, HR or both packages are selected, and on billing cycle. The default view of the pricing page shows annual billing for the Recruiting package at 1–20 employees:
| Plan | Default view price | Billing | Texting, video interviews, assessments |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $299/month ($3,588/year) | Monthly or annual | Paid add-ons |
| Premier | $599/month ($7,188/year) | Annual only | Included, plus referrals |
| Enterprise | $719/month ($8,628/year) | Annual only | Included, plus referrals |
In that view, Standard lists texting, video interviews and assessments as add-ons at $89, $109 and $59 per month. The monthly-billing price is not displayed in that default view. Standard is the only plan offered monthly; it renews automatically every month, and renewal can be cancelled anytime. On the HR side, Performance & Engagement is a $39/month add-on for Standard and included in the higher plans. Unlimited active jobs are subject to fair usage limits.
Every paid account starts with 3,000 free AI credits to try the agent. After that, the agent is billed per action: evaluating a candidate against the ideal candidate profile costs 1 AI credit, adding a passive candidate to the pipeline costs 2, and each candidate interaction with the chat costs 10.
| Bundle | Price per credit | Total |
|---|---|---|
| 5,000 AI credits | $0.12 | $600 |
| 10,000 AI credits | $0.10 | $1,000 |
| 50,000 AI credits | $0.095 | $4,750 |
AI credits expire one year after purchase, and the 3,000 free credits expire one year after plan activation. AI credits are non-refundable. Larger bundles are quoted by sales.
Credits sit at the account level and are shared across all agentic jobs where the agent is enabled. Users with purchase permissions get email alerts at 80%, 90% and 100% consumption of the balance. If the balance hits zero mid-process, candidates the agent has already started on are still processed; only new candidates entering the pipeline are skipped.
The pricing page says the 15-day trial includes the complete feature set of the Standard plan with no credit card required, while the help center says the trial gives access to the Recruiting and HR features under the Enterprise plan; the two official pages do not match. Either way, the agent is not yet accessible to trial accounts, and the trial allows only one active job at a time. Premium tools are capped during the trial at 500 video interview invitations, 500 assessment invitations and 100 SMS conversations. Trial accounts also receive 75 Search with AI credits. After a subscription or trial ends, the account drops to a Free plan that can view existing candidate data but cannot post jobs or interact with candidates.
For small teams mainly weighing cost, Breezy HR is a commonly listed Workable alternative with a Bootstrap plan described as a free-forever way to get started. Workable has no comparable free plan for posting jobs, so the trade-off is price versus Workable's combined ATS, HR suite and agent.
Workable's June 2026 announcement said every paid Recruiting account starts with 1,000 free credits and that one credit covers one candidate processed. The current pricing page and help center instead list 3,000 free credits and per-action rates of 1, 2 or 10 credits. The pages have not been reconciled.
For candidate and employee data, Workable acts as a data processor on behalf of its customers, and a candidate applying to a Workable customer is covered by that customer's privacy policy. Data may be stored by Workable's hosting provider on servers in the USA and the EEA. On AI training, the AI page states that Workable's AI tools are trained using implicit or explicit feedback from daily user interactions and from analyzing why candidates are hired or moved through hiring stages, and that its focus is to use customers' data to enhance the performance and accuracy of its in-house AI systems. The privacy policy separately allows anonymised or aggregate data to be used for statistics, service improvement and research. The company states that the agent is aligned with the EU AI Act, that candidate data can be deleted on request, and that the platform holds ISO 27001, 27017, SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3 certifications.
No. The agent is not yet available on trial accounts. The 3,000 free AI credits are granted once an account moves to a paid recruiting plan.
Evaluating one candidate against the ideal candidate profile costs 1 AI credit. Candidates who fail a knockout question, or who have been blocked, cost no credits.
No. It sources, screens and messages candidates and can auto-advance or auto-disqualify if those actions are enabled, but recruiters can override any decision and make the final call.
Workable's AI page says its AI tools are trained on feedback from daily user interactions and hiring outcomes, and that it uses customers' data to improve its in-house AI systems.
The account moves to a Free plan: existing candidate data stays viewable in read-only mode, but jobs cannot be posted and candidates cannot be contacted.
