What is Wistia Remix?

Wistia Remix is an AI video editor built into the Wistia video platform that edits footage you already have from a chat prompt. Wistia describes Remix as an agentic video editor: you direct, and it does the editing. You describe the result, such as a recap, a highlight reel or a set of social clips, and Remix pulls, orders and polishes the relevant moments into a new video.

Remix is a feature of a Wistia account rather than a standalone app. The help center labels it a new AI-powered editing tool that is now in beta, so its interface and behavior may still change. It is also separate from the Wistia Agent: Remix is described as a focused tool for creating video, while the agent is a general-purpose assistant for finding and acting on content across the account.

How Remix reads footage without a transcript

Remix does not rely only on spoken words. Scene captions let Remix generate time-coded visual descriptions of each scene, and the agent runs this step when a prompt calls on visual information or when there is no transcript. This is what allows edits of silent screen recordings or B-roll where the transcript alone would say nothing about what is shown.

Motion graphics and brand kits

• Built-in styles: three motion graphic styles are available, Standard, Pop and Elevated, with Standard as the default and the others available on request in chat.
• Graphic types: animated title text, lower thirds, accordion transitions, captions, word stacks, quote pulls and end cards, with copy pulled from the transcript.
• Custom motion kits: a named, branded package of colors and animated treatments that can be applied to any Remix video. If you give Remix a website domain, it will pull the brand's real colors, fonts and logo from that site to build the kit.

Copy, colors and timing of any graphic can be adjusted through chat, so on-brand output does not require a separate design tool.

Recording inside Remix

You can create and refine a webcam or screen recording directly within Remix by asking for a recording in chat and pressing the Record button that appears. When the recording ends, Remix offers four follow-ups: tighten it up, rewrite and re-record with an in-app teleprompter, turn it into narrated slides, or keep it as is. The narrated-slides option is the most transformative: your footage is replaced by slides and your voice by an AI voiceover reading the rewritten script, which you approve first, set over background music.

Captions, framing and audio

• Burnt-in captions: requested in chat; captions are derived from your video's transcript and narration, with four presets plus custom font, color and position changes.
• Aspect ratio: Remix can change a video to 9:16 vertical, square or any custom ratio, and reposition the frame scene by scene on request.
• Face framing: when reframing, Remix can detect the speakers in each clip and keep them in frame instead of cropping to the geometric center; clips with two or more visible faces get a multi-face grid.
• Audio cleanup: Remix can strip background noise and background music from source clips when you ask it to clean up the audio or isolate the voice.
• Format panel: after a remix is generated, the Format panel offers Layout and Captions tabs, and each scene can be positioned independently by dragging its bounding box or choosing Fit or Fill.
• Pronunciation control: brand and product names that AI narration mispronounces can be defined on a Pronunciation page in account settings, and the entries sync to all Remix narrations.

Guide

Making a first remix

1. Open Remix from the Remix button in the account navigation menu, in a folder, or on a media page.
2. Choose the source: a new remix can start from a single video or a folder containing multiple videos, and more source videos can be added from the Remix page.
3. Pick a suggested prompt or write your own. The "Browse Remix skills" panel has a Video formats tab with preset prompts for highlight reels, social clips and compilations, and a Quick edits tab for captions, background music and audio cleanup.
4. Send the prompt, preview the result and ask for revisions in chat. Earlier remix conversations stay available from the chat history icon in the left-side panel.
5. When the cut is right, use "Save as new video" to store it in your Wistia account, choosing a title and destination folder.

Writing prompts that Remix can follow

Remix's prompt guidance recommends stating the purpose (teaser, highlight reel or tutorial), the duration (for example 60 to 90 seconds), the pace, and the topics from your footage that should appear; a full outline also works.

Use cases and examples

Wistia lists ten starting templates on the Remix page: webinar recaps, highlight reels, key takeaways, social clips, video podcast clips, cutting down a long video, event recaps, course and training recaps, customer testimonials, and talking-head videos. Wistia calls each one a starting point to tweak once you are in.

• Webinar highlight reel: for webinars hosted on Wistia, you can click "Repurpose" on the webinar overview page or use the Remix suggestions below the recording, then ask for something like a two-minute highlight reel of the biggest takeaways.
• Silent B-roll montage: if you supply clips with no audio and ask for a montage, Remix uses scene captions to decide what is happening and where to cut, then lays a music bed on top.
• Cleaner talking-head takes: the "Tighten it up" option removes pauses and false starts from a fresh recording, and Remix also flags clearly off-topic sections and asks which, if any, to cut.
• Course and event recaps: a folder of session recordings can be the source for a single recap, since Remix combines several clips into one sequenced video.

Platforms

• Wistia web app: Remix lives in the Wistia account itself, opened from the account navigation, a folder, a media page, or a webinar's overview page.
• AI assistants through the Wistia MCP server: Wistia says you can create a highlight reel from a webinar or social clips from a podcast directly in tools such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor. Through the MCP server an assistant can start a remix with natural-language instructions, continue editing it, check job status and export the finished remix to a folder.
• MCP access rules: all Wistia accounts have access to the MCP server, but only Account Owners and Managers can use it. By default, the MCP server requires approval for all tasks, and that setting can be changed to always approve or blocked.

Saved remixes behave like any other Wistia media. After saving, the previewer offers links to the new media page, to open the remixed video in the Wistia editor, and to download the file, so a finished cut can also leave Wistia as a downloaded file.

Pricing

Remix is marketed as free to start, no credit card required, and no separate Remix price appears on the pricing page. The plan comparison lists "Agentic & transcript-based editing" and "AI highlights and social clips" as included on all four platform plans; the pricing page does not name Remix in its plan table or state how many Remix credits each plan receives.

Business and Business + Signals both start with a free trial that needs no credit card, and Wistia says most teams start on Business.

Remix usage runs on credits. You receive fresh credits every month, each remix and each revision uses a credit, and unused credits do not carry over. Remaining credits are shown on the Remix page, and an assistant connected through the MCP server can also check how many AI Remix credits remain this month. Dubbing and AI audio descriptions are separate: they are not included on Free, are paid add-ons on Business and Business + Signals, and are included on Enterprise.

Wistia Remix alternatives

The same paid-partner review names two tools as better choices when editing, rather than hosting, is the center of the workflow: it says Remix makes most sense inside Wistia's hosting workflow, while Descript or Premiere Pro fit better if editing is central.

Limitations

Most of the limits below follow from Remix being an editor of existing footage inside a role-gated, credit-metered Wistia account.

• No new footage: remixes cannot generate new video and will only use your existing footage, so B-roll, product shots or scenes that were never filmed must come from elsewhere.
• Beta status: the help center still describes Remix as in beta.
• Role-gated: only Account Owners and Managers can open Remix.
• Credits reset monthly: unused credits are lost at the end of each month, and neither the pricing page nor the Remix help article states the monthly allowance.
• No crop preview: Remix won't show a crop preview before you submit an aspect-ratio change, although face framing can be adjusted once the remix is ready.
• Storage use: everything in the account counts toward storage, including recordings, clips and any videos you create, which matters on the Free plan's 25 GB cap.
• Use can be restricted: Wistia may suspend or restrict a customer's use of AI features when that use violates its terms, its Acceptable Use Policy or applicable law.
• Cancellation without refund: outside Enterprise plans and signed order forms, you can cancel at the end of the billing cycle or immediately, but no refund is issued.

Privacy, data use and output rights

Wistia's AI features are governed by an Artificial Intelligence Supplement to its Terms of Service, with an effective date of March 13, 2026. Key points, in the supplement's own terms:

• Model training: unless Wistia expressly discloses otherwise, customer content submitted through the services is not used by Wistia to train generalized artificial intelligence models.
• Third-party AI providers: third-party AI providers may process customer content solely to provide the requested functionality.
• Ownership: customers retain ownership of content submitted to AI features and, to the extent applicable law allows, own outputs generated from that content.
• Accuracy: outputs may contain inaccuracies, may require human review before publication, and may not be unique, since similar or identical outputs may be generated for other users.
• Changing features: Wistia may add, modify or discontinue AI features at any time.
• Consent for voice and likeness: for the speech-generation feature, customers warrant they have written consent from every natural person whose personal data or likeness, including voice, appears in the content.

The section headed "Biometric Data" repeats the same third-party provider paragraph used in the preceding section rather than setting out separate biometric terms.
