Trancy is a language learning extension and companion app that adds bilingual subtitles to online videos, translates selected text or whole web pages, and saves words and sentences for later review. The vendor frames it as a way to turn content you already watch and read into study material rather than a standalone course: Trancy supports bilingual subtitles for YouTube and Netflix and offers AI translation of selected webpage text as well as full-text translation.
Beyond the browser extension, the product family includes iOS and Android apps, a web-based Learning Center, a PDF translator and Trancy Air, a desktop translator. The help center states that Trancy is developed by L2D LIMITED. The privacy policy, however, is written in the name of Trancy Technologies Ltd. and its affiliates, so the two official documents do not name the same entity. Trancy's about page describes the company as a three-person team.
As captured on September 28, 2026, the Chrome Web Store listing showed a 4.7 rating from 2.8K ratings and 300,000 users in the Education category, with a store note that ratings update daily and may not reflect the most recent reviews.
Trancy works first as a bilingual subtitles extension, with web, PDF and speaking tools sharing the same account and saved vocabulary.
When a YouTube video has no usable captions, AI Subtitle uses OpenAI's Whisper speech-to-text service to transcribe the audio asynchronously and then adds Trancy's translation, and the company claims 80% better sentence segmentation than YouTube's own machine-generated subtitles. That percentage is a vendor figure rather than an independent measurement. Once a video has been processed, Trancy caches the result so other users can reuse it, which means popular videos may already have AI subtitles ready.
Premium speaking practice includes AITalk conversation training and AI Pronunciation Assessment, both run from the Learning Center. Trancy Air brings translation outside the browser: it runs on macOS and Windows with the same features on both. In Trancy Air, core translation is free, while AI definitions, grammar checking, voice input and pronunciation scoring are Premium.
A custom engine matters most on Premium + Advanced AI, because extra engine packages are currently not on sale once the monthly token allowance is used up.
Trancy is built for self-directed language learners who want to study with authentic content rather than textbooks. The help center says Trancy supports up to 10 learning languages as of June 5, 2026, and the current list is set in each user's account settings.

The Chrome and Google Play ratings measure different products, the desktop extension and the Android app, so the two figures are not comparable as one score.

The yearly discount comes from a banner advertising a limited-time 35% offer that ends September 30, 2026. After the Advanced AI token quota runs out, you can continue with your own API key, and Trancy says additional engine package purchases are temporarily paused.
On trials, the pricing FAQ says that after starting a subscription you get a 1-day or 3-day free trial depending on the subscription duration, with no charge if you cancel during the trial. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, and cancellation is done from the Trancy dashboard.
Refund terms differ between official pages. The help center says monthly subscribers can request a refund within 7 days and yearly subscribers within 30 days, and for Premium + Advanced AI any AI engine usage already consumed is deducted from the refund. The Terms of Service instead give a right to request a refund during 30 calendar days from the date of the original purchase, without separating monthly and yearly plans.
One purchase covers every surface: Trancy Air shares one account and membership with the browser extension, the mobile app and the Learning Center. Buying inside the iOS app is different, because the help center says iOS prices are set per region and tend to run higher than the website.
Evaluating Trancy as a Language Reactor alternative mostly comes down to platform reach and learning languages. Language Reactor's own site reports 2,000,000+ users and labels itself desktop only, while Trancy offers iOS and Android apps. Language Reactor also says it supports content in 40+ languages.
