Tipsy Chat is an adults-only AI roleplay chat platform, also branded as Tipsy AI Tavern, where users build custom AI characters and continue open-ended stories with them on the web and in mobile apps. The terms of service form an agreement with LIGHTSPEED INTELLIGENCE PTE. LTD. in Singapore and with Waffo.com Limited in Hong Kong, described as an authorized distributor, and cover both the website at Tipsy.chat and the Tipsy Chat app.
The about page promises a judgment-free space that is free from ads, but messages are not unlimited: chats and image or video generation spend gems, an in-app currency that can be earned, bought or received monthly with a subscription. Characters carry a Limited or a Limitless rating, and Limitless characters stay hidden unless a user enables Limitless mode for 18+ content.
An older company page on the official welcome subdomain describes LIGHTSPEED INTELLIGENCE LTD as a UK company with a London address and carries a 2024 copyright, while current legal pages name the Singapore entity. An AI tool directory added Tipsy Chat on April 25, 2024, tags it NSFW, and estimated 2.3M monthly visits as captured on September 21, 2026, a third-party desktop-traffic estimate rather than an official figure. A separately branded companion site called TipsyChatAI runs on a different domain and is not the product described here.
Tipsy Chat combines a character builder, character art tools, adjustable memory and a content rating system in one AI character creator.
The creator guide recommends aiming for 700-800 tokens across personality traits and example dialogues, and warns that too many tokens can give a character short-term memory loss. That budget matters twice, because memory use also drives the gem cost of each message.
Character art can be generated with the built-in AI tool or uploaded, and the upload page offers an Upscale function. Two sliders, Face Mimic and Style Mimicry, set how closely a generated image follows the face or overall style of a reference image, with higher values leaving the AI less room to vary.
Free users can use up to 1M tokens of memory with supported models, and a Max Memory Limit caps how much context a chat uses. The more memory a conversation carries, the more gems each message costs, even before the cap is reached. Pinned Memory, available from the Standard tier upward, keeps chosen character settings and plot points in view.
When Limitless mode is off, the platform displays only SFW characters; when it is on, NSFW characters are included. Even Limitless characters have public-content rules: their images, taglines and example dialogues may not show minors, directly exposed private body parts, overly pornographic images or explicit descriptions of sexual acts.

Content that seeks to provide medical, legal, financial or tax advice is on the prohibited list in the terms, so a character written as an expert is not a source of professional guidance.

Age handling is declarative. In the pages checked here, which were the terms, the community guidelines, the privacy policy and the character creation form, age rests on declarations: users state that they are over 18 and creators confirm their characters are adults, and none of them describes ID or face-based age verification.
The creator guide points users to the Tavern Support channel on Discord for one-on-one help, with email as the fallback. The terms say payments for the service may be processed by LUMIEN COMPANY LIMITED, registered in England and Wales, acting as merchant of record.
No subscription is required to chat: as long as an account holds gems, a user can talk to characters and create unlimited custom characters, and gems can be earned for free through daily check-ins, missions, coin exchange and social media events. Paid-tier prices are not displayed on the plans page for signed-out visitors, so they are not quoted here. The subscription FAQ says annual billing saves up to 50% compared with paying monthly.
Blue gems arrive monthly with a subscription and do not carry over, while red gems are purchased or earned and remain valid permanently; chats and generations spend blue gems first. Chat models come at a range of price points, including low-cost models for everyday chats, and the input box estimates a message's cost before it is sent, with every gem logged in Gem History.
Refund wording differs between pages. The subscription FAQ says Apple decides App Store refunds, Google Play purchases can be refunded self-service within 48 hours with support helping after that, and RuStore requests take about 10 business days. The subscription terms state that app store purchases follow the store's refund policy and that Tipsy Chat cannot provide refunds.
An AI tool directory lists PopVid, Dream Companion, DreamGen, Friends & Fables and Harpy Chat among Tipsy Chat alternatives, and an App Store search for the product returns other character chat apps such as PolyBuzz and CHAI.
Tipsy Chat stands out for very long character fields, memory up to 1M tokens and an explicit Limited and Limitless split, at the cost of metered usage in long sessions.
The site does not reconcile these documents, so the line between allowed Limitless content and prohibited content is not stated in one place.
If the company discovers that someone under 18 has provided personal information, the privacy policy says it will close the account and delete that information to the extent required by COPPA. The App Store rating is 17+ and the Google Play rating is Mature 17+, one year below the service's own 18+ rule.
