Smartlead is cold email software for running outbound campaigns from many sender mailboxes at once, with unlimited mailboxes, fully automated email warmup and a shared reply inbox the company calls the "unibox". It is operated by 521 Products Pty Ltd, an Australian registered business that trades under the SmartLead and SmartProspect brands.
The vendor's own positioning is wider than email: it describes Smartlead as an AI-native outbound operating system for cold email, LinkedIn and calling campaigns. Mailboxes, placement tests, dedicated servers, verification and calling are sold as add-ons.
Smartlead's own figures for its customer base are not consistent. The homepage banner says Smartlead is trusted by 100,000+ businesses. An FAQ answer further down the same page puts the figure at over 31,000 businesses.
Smartlead's email warmup runs on a pool that the company describes as private and limited to vetted senders, with no public sign-ups. Warmup runs automatically from the moment a mailbox is connected. Each mailbox gets its own ramping profile and safety rails.
The FAQ also says messages will consistently land in the primary inbox; that is a vendor promise, not an independently measured result.
SmartProspect is the built-in lead finder. Under its allowance model, every three emails sent earn one verified lead. Smartlead says each prospect is verified across three independent sources to keep bounce rates low. The allowance is counted separately from stored contacts and sends.
Smartlead's developer documentation describes this warmup path for a new sender account:
Smartlead MCP links an account to an AI assistant so campaigns, leads and replies can be managed by typing requests. Setup starts by copying the API key from Settings, then API Keys.
These examples come from Smartlead's own case studies and plan descriptions; the outcome figures are single-customer results published by the vendor, not independent benchmarks.
Three of the four examples lean on features that start on the Pro plan: the API and client workspaces.
Smartlead maps each plan to a stage of outbound maturity:
Smartlead pricing is built around send volume and verified-lead allowances rather than per-seat or per-mailbox fees. There are four plans, from Base at $39/month to Unlimited Prime at $379/month, and annual billing saves 17%. Every plan comes with a free trial and no credit card is needed to start; the pricing pages checked do not state how long the trial lasts.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual, per month | Contacts stored | Email sends / month | Verified prospect emails / month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Base | $39 | $32.50 | 2,000 | 6,000 | 2,000 |
| Pro | $94 | $78.30 | 30,000 | 90,000 | 30,000 |
| Unlimited Smart | $174 | $144.50 | Unlimited | 150,000 | 50,000 |
| Unlimited Prime | $379 | $314.60 | Unlimited | 500,000 | 170,000 |
A lead credit is a unique prospect address stored in the account and counts toward the contacts limit, while an email credit is each email sent. Because the two counters are separate, the same contact can be emailed multiple times within the send allowance. Verified prospect emails are a $59/month add-on on Base and Pro and come included on both Unlimited plans. As captured on October 2, 2026, a sign-up banner offered 50% off the first month on any plan.
| Add-on | Listed price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| SmartSenders, fresh Google mailbox (via Zapmail) | $13/domain/year + $4.50/mailbox/month | Buying and provisioning sender mailboxes |
| SmartSenders, pre-warmed Google mailbox | $18/domain/year + $9/mailbox/month | Mailboxes delivered already warmed |
| SmartDelivery Growth | $49/month | 120 campaign sequence tests, up to 50 sender accounts per test |
| SmartServers | $39/server/month | Dedicated IP; from Pro upward, 3 servers included on Unlimited Prime |
| White-label client workspace | $29/month per workspace | Agency branding and separate client workspaces |
| Email verification | From $32 | Credit packs, available on all plans |
| SmartDialer | From $9/month | Credit-based calling |
Email verification credits can be bought one-time or monthly, and the monthly option saves 17%. SmartDialer tiers all carry the full dialer feature set and differ only in credit volume.
Smartlead advertises no lock-in contracts and says customers can cancel anytime. The Terms of Use add that each subscription renews automatically for another period unless notice is given under clause 9.1. Termination by either party takes effect only at the end of the current Subscription Period. To the extent permitted by law, fees are non-refundable, and no refunds or credits are given for cancelling part-way through a period.
An FAQ answer on the homepage does not match the pricing page. It lists the Pro Plan at $94/month with 30,000 active leads and 150,000 monthly emails, against 90,000 sends on the pricing page. The same answer describes a Custom Plan at $174/month with up to 12 million active lead credits and 60 million emails, while the pricing page sells Unlimited Smart at that price with 150,000 sends.
Smartlead alternatives show up in two places. On a third-party review platform, the Smartlead profile lists lemlist, Apollo, Snov.io and Reply.io among the companies people also looked at. Smartlead itself says it is often evaluated against Instantly, Lemlist, Apollo, Saleshandy, Email Bison, PlusVibe, Outreach.io and Salesloft.
The Terms of Use strictly prohibit using Smartlead to send unsolicited commercial electronic messages or make unsolicited calls as defined by the Spam Laws. The terms define Spam Laws to include Australia's Spam Act 2003 (Cth) and similar laws in the jurisdictions where the user or the intended audience are located.
As captured on October 2, 2026, the company-level profile for Smartlead.ai on a third-party review platform showed a score of 2.9 from 141 reviews. The platform notes that the company has not invited customers recently, so the reviews may not be representative. Its AI-generated summary of 79 recent reviews says most reviewers were somewhat happy, while some were unhappy with slow customer support and unresolved technical problems.
Smartlead's privacy policy, terms and DPA, as checked on October 2, 2026, do not say whether customer data is used to train AI models.
No. All plans include unlimited email accounts, and pricing is based on monthly sends, stored contacts and verified-lead allowances. The Fair Use Policy still applies to unlimited plans.
