Prismic is a hosted headless CMS that its maker now describes as an agentic web platform for marketing teams, built on a headless CMS. Content is stored in Prismic and delivered to your own website through APIs, so developers choose the frontend framework and hosting while editors build and update pages in the Prismic web app.
Independent coverage of the company's Series A funding round notes that Prismic manages the infrastructure: there is no backend to deploy on your own server before you start modeling content. The company says Prismic runs this way for 10,000+ websites, powering 70M+ pages across 90+ countries.
What separates Prismic from a plain content API is the slice, a reusable page section that developers define in code and marketers arrange visually. An MCP server and AI translation and page-generation features now sit on top of that model.
Slices are reusable page sections, such as a hero, a pricing table or a testimonial, that developers build in their own code; marketers drag and drop them into pages, and AI agents use the same slices so pages stay on-brand.
Developers define the page types, fields and reusable slices in code, so they keep control of structure, design-system rules and frontend behavior; the range of pages marketers can build depends on the slices developers have shipped.
The Type Builder is a cloud-based content-modeling interface in the Prismic web UI for page types, custom types, slices and fields. The Type Builder is available to repository administrators. The Prismic CLI is presented as the recommended workflow because it creates content models, generates TypeScript types and works with AI coding agents.
Two official pages currently disagree about Slice Machine, the older local modeling tool. The developer documentation says Slice Machine is deprecated and that new projects use the Type Builder and the Prismic CLI; it remains documented as a reference for existing Slice Machine projects. The pricing comparison table still lists Slice Machine as included on all six plans.

The Prismic MCP server lets AI assistants search documents, read and create content, upload assets, manage releases and publish them from a conversation with Claude or ChatGPT. Every write lands in a release rather than going live. The publish tool requires a Publisher (Manager) role, and publishing through it is irreversible.
Localization is available on all plans: Free starts with two locales, higher plans unlock more, and every repository includes 5 free translations. Locales use codes such as en-us or fr-ca, and pages can be copied to another locale one at a time or in bulk before translation starts.

Prismic pricing is set per repository, not per account. A repository is an independent workspace with its own content, users, endpoint and subscription, and each repository can sit on a different plan.
