Pictory is a browser-based text-to-video AI tool that turns text, blogs, scripts, ideas, PowerPoint decks, images, screen recordings, URLs and existing videos into edited videos with captions, AI voices, AI avatars and templates.
The service is run by Pictory Corp, whose terms list a mailing address in Bothell, Washington. The founders built the first prototype at a hackathon in Seattle in 2019 and launched the first version of the product in July 2020.
A typical Pictory video is assembled from stock footage, narration and captions rather than generated frame by frame; fully generative clips come from AI Studio and cost AI credits.
Three facts shape most buying decisions. There is a 14-day free trial, but trial downloads carry a Pictory watermark. Paid plans start at $25 per month when billed annually. Subscription fees are not refundable, although you can cancel at any time.
Pictory works as a single AI video generator and editor in the browser. A project moves through Story, Visuals, Audio, Branding, Text and Avatars tabs, covering scene text, visuals, narration and music, brand kits, animated overlays and on-screen presenters.
The pricing FAQ says text-to-video currently supports English only, while text-based editing of recordings supports French, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
AI Studio is a chat-based workspace for AI images and short video clips. Its image models are Flux, Nano Banana Lite, Seedream, Nano Banana, Nano Banana Pro and Nova Canvas. For video, Pixverse makes clips up to 15 seconds, Veo Fast and Veo create cinematic clips, and Omni Flash makes 10-second clips with synchronized audio. You can request up to four variants per prompt; each delivered variant is charged separately, and failed variants are not charged.
Brand kits store fonts, colors and logos. Captions are automatic, subtitles export as .srt, .vtt or text files, and videos are generated in MP4 in landscape, portrait or square formats.
Video Translation, available on every plan, copies a project into another language by translating its script, captions and on-screen text, but it does not dub audio or sync lip movements.
Stock visuals come from Storyblocks and Getty Images, and background music is licensed from Melodie. Getty Images visuals are limited to the Professional and Team plans, although free trial users can use them until the trial ends. Starter users can buy Getty access as an add-on.
Previewing, editing and sharing do not use video minutes; minutes are deducted only when you export. Stock watermarks and audio glitches in the preview do not appear in the downloaded file.
Melodie registers its catalogue with YouTube Content ID from 1 September 2026. For uploads from that date, paste the single-use clearance code Pictory provides at download into the YouTube description; each code clears one video and expires seven days after it is generated.
The common thread is existing written material. Pictory is most useful when a script, article, deck or recording already exists, and less useful when every shot must be invented from a prompt.

It is a weaker fit if you need text-to-video in a language other than English, dubbed video with lip sync, or cinematic generative footage as the main output. Accounts are limited to people aged 13 or older.
The help pages disagree about phones: an older FAQ says Pictory is not compatible with mobile devices and needs a PC or desktop, while a newer article describes the Pickford flow.
Pictory pricing is quoted in USD, and cards and PayPal are accepted. The page defaults to annual billing. Each annual card shows two figures before "per month, billed annually", and the higher one equals that plan's monthly-billing price.

Annual plans deliver the full year of video minutes upfront. Monthly minute quotas reset on the first of every month and do not roll over, and on Team plans the quota is shared by every member. AI credits work differently: they are granted on the subscription date, unused credits roll over, and purchased credits do not expire while the subscription stays active.
Credits pay for AI Studio images, video and avatars. An image costs from 0.6 credits with Flux Schnell to 14 credits with Nano Banana Pro, Veo 3.1 costs 20 credits per second without audio and 40 with audio, and stock avatars cost 15 credits per 30 seconds of video. Extra credits start at $25 for 500, as a recurring pack or a one-time purchase.
At the time of checking, the site ran a limited offer of 40% off Pro Annual plus 2X AI credits, and the Professional card was labeled as an exclusive Pictory 2.0 offer.
The API is sold separately: API Self-Serve costs $79 per month billed annually with 7,200 video minutes a year, or $99 per month with 600 video minutes a month, and API for Enterprises carries a one-time setup fee.
Refunds are not offered on paid subscriptions. You can cancel at any time and will not be charged on renewal, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Instead of cancelling, you can pause for $1 per month to keep your account and project data.
Pictory's own comparison post names Veed.io, Descript, InVideo and Steve.ai as Pictory alternatives, describing Descript as strongest for podcasts and transcript-based editing and InVideo as AI plus template-based editing. It is the vendor's view, not a neutral ranking.
The practical differences are resolution and credit carry-over. Pictory's paid plans stop at 1080p export, while Descript and InVideo advertise 4K, and Pictory's AI credits carry over while you stay subscribed, which InVideo's credits do not.
Stock visuals, music and voiceovers are licensed for use in your Pictory videos, so no royalties are due. Third-party digital materials may be used only together with your own content inside the service, not on a standalone basis, in templates, in physical or digital retail products such as posters or e-cards, as part of a logo or trademark, or to train machine learning or AI systems. The license gives no ownership of the materials, and if a licensor withdraws an asset, Pictory may stop you using it in new videos.
A custom avatar or voice clone requires a consent recording that follows Pictory's script, and Pictory may ask for proof of the depicted person's written consent at any time. Cloning anyone without consent, public figures without explicit authorization, anyone under 18, or anyone for deepfakes meant to mislead about real events is prohibited, and you must hold Pictory harmless for claims over another person's likeness or voice.
Clone limits are inconsistent: the voice clone page says Pro, Teams and Enterprise accounts can hold up to five instant voice clones, while the plan comparison lists two voice clones on Professional and two per user on Team.
Pictory claims no ownership of what you upload, and videos you make are treated as your own content, but you remain responsible for their legality and third-party rights. The terms state that AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete or biased. Adult, explicit or NSFW generation is not supported in any Pictory tool.
