What is MeiGen?

MeiGen is a web-based AI prompt gallery with a built-in image and video generator: you browse curated AI artwork, see the prompt behind each piece, and send that prompt into an editor to make your own version. The site is positioned around free GPT Image 2.5, Nano Banana and Seedance 2.5 prompts, and the generator runs those prompts on credit-priced models.

The service is published by Meigen Creative L.L.C., which lists a Sheridan, Wyoming business address in its legal pages. The same MeiGen account works on the website, in iOS and Android apps, through a REST API, and inside AI coding and chat tools through the MeiGen MCP server.

Two policies shape most decisions about MeiGen. It sells credits as one-time purchases with no subscription or auto-renewal, and its free daily credits cover only the models the platform classifies as basic. Premium models such as GPT Image 2.5, Nanobanana Pro, Midjourney, Seedance and Veo need welcome or purchased credits.

Curated prompt gallery

The gallery features curated, community-sourced AI artwork refreshed daily. MeiGen indexes publicly shared AI artwork from X (Twitter) to power the gallery, and its privacy policy states that the original creator retains all rights to that content. Users can also submit their own generations; the team reviews submissions before anything is published. The gallery also has model tabs for GPT Image, Seedance, Nanobanana and Midjourney, so you can browse only Nano Banana prompts.

• Category filters: Ads & Product, Brand & Logo, Videos, Illustration & 3D, Posters & Visuals, Portraits, Storyboard & Characters, and Wallpaper.
• Use Idea: copies a card's original prompt into the generation editor, ready to customize and generate.
• Hybrid search: matches both the wording and the visual content of community prompts, and you can also search by uploading an image.
• Favorites and boards: saves sync across devices, and boards stay private until you make one public to get a shareable link.

Prompt editor

• Template variables: some prompts contain blue [placeholder] tags such as [style] or [subject] that you click to replace with your own text.
• Reference images: upload your own images or drag a gallery card into the reference area, then type @ to tell the model which image plays which role.
• Enhance Prompt: expands short or simple prompts with visual details such as composition, lighting, colors and textures.
• Cost preview: the exact credit cost appears on the generate button before you submit.

Image and video models

The figures below come from the model comparison documentation as captured on September 26, 2026. The documentation says availability comes from the live model list and asks users to confirm the displayed total before submitting.

GPT Image 2.5 offers five quality levels, from Standard to Max, and two variants: Sunburst for quality and Flare for speed, which cost the same at the same resolution and quality. A 1K Standard image costs 4 credits, and 4K output is paid-only. Seedance 2.5 produces 4–30 second clips at 480p, 720p or 1080p with generated audio, and reference audio clips you attach never cost credits.

Skills for e-commerce visuals

Skills are guided, e-commerce-focused workflows that sit beside general generation. Instead of writing a prompt, you fill in a short form and MeiGen produces the finished asset.

• Product Detail Images: turns one product photo into a set of detail-page images.
• White Background: turns a casual product photo into a clean white-background product image.
• Marketing Poster: turns a one-line idea into a promotional, event or recruitment poster, with poster text in Chinese, English, Korean, Japanese, Russian, French or Spanish.
• Image Enhancement (Upscale): Crisp preserves the original structure, while Creative rebuilds detail and can change the appearance.

Skills have their own prices: Product Detail Images and Marketing Poster cost 5 credits per image on Fast and 18 on Pro, and a multi-image set multiplies the per-image price by the number of images.

MeiGen MCP and REST API

MeiGen MCP connects image generation, video generation and five visual Skills (Remove Background, Product Detail Images, Marketing Poster, AI Backgrounds and Upscale) to AI tools through the Model Context Protocol. The remote server needs no Node.js; a local npm package adds local file access and ordinary image generation through ComfyUI or an OpenAI-compatible backend, but all five Skills and video generation still require MeiGen Cloud. The MCP server's code is published on GitHub under the MIT license.

Developers can also call the REST API directly with a Bearer API key that starts with meigen_sk_, created on the API Keys page in a desktop browser.

Guide

From a gallery card to your own image

1. Open the gallery and narrow it with the category tags, or search. On desktop, Cmd+K or Ctrl+K opens search and requires sign-in; on mobile, the search page is open to everyone.
2. Pick a card and click Use Idea to copy its original prompt into the generation editor.
3. Replace any blue [placeholder] tags and add reference images if you need them.
4. Optionally press Enhance Prompt to expand a short prompt.
5. Choose a model, aspect ratio, resolution and, for video, a duration, then check the credit cost on the generate button before submitting.
6. Find the result in the generation history panel, where you can save it, download it, turn a still into a video with Animate, or publish it to the gallery.

Connecting MeiGen MCP to an AI tool

1. Create an API key on the desktop API Keys page.
2. Add the remote MeiGen server in your client (in ChatGPT desktop: Settings → MCP servers → Add server, Streamable HTTP) and supply the key through a private Authorization header or the MEIGEN_API_TOKEN environment variable.
3. Ask your AI tool to list MeiGen's Skills and current prices; this test query costs no credits.
4. Top up purchased credits before generating, because API keys cannot spend daily free credits.

Use cases and examples

These examples come from MeiGen's own documentation and describe what the product is built to do, not independent test results.

• Marketplace listing images: Product Detail Images turns one product photo into a coordinated set of hero images, detail close-ups and selling-point layouts for a listing.
• Campaign and event posters: Marketing Poster plans layout and typography for campaign, event and social posters, using your exact copy or letting AI draft it.
• Agent-driven launch workflows: through MeiGen MCP, an AI assistant can bring listing images, product scenes and posters into an existing copywriting or marketing workflow from one product photo.

Who is it for

MeiGen fits people who would rather start from a working prompt than engineer one, and who are comfortable paying per generation once they move past the basic models.

• Creators and designers: the gallery shows the prompt behind each image as an editable starting point.
• E-commerce sellers and marketers: Skills cover detail-page image sets, white-background product shots, posters and upscaling without prompt writing.
• Developers and AI-agent users: MeiGen MCP works in tools such as ChatGPT desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and OpenClaw, and the REST API serves custom integrations; generation through either uses only purchased credits.
• Gallery contributors: accepted submissions are published with your profile name and avatar, and featured picks earn 50 credits for new creations.

It is a weaker fit if you expect free access to premium models. Users must be at least 13 years old, and minors must use the service under guardian supervision.

Platforms

• Web: the gallery, generator and Skills are all available on the website, where Skills open from the sidebar.
• iPhone app: the App Store listing marks the app as iPhone-only and requires iOS 16.4 or later.
• Android app: distributed on Google Play under the same MeiGen Creative LLC developer name.
• Shared account: credits purchased on the web work in the app, and the other way around; favorites, boards and generation history follow you across devices.
• Web-only models: Seedream 5.0 Pro, Seedream 4.5, Flux 2 Klein and Veo 3.1 are marked web-only in the model comparison table.
• ChatGPT and Codex: the terms describe an account-linked plugin that requires a verified email, with authorization lasting up to 30 days. The MCP page separately says a hosted web custom connection has no OAuth and supports only public lookups, without generation or uploads.

As captured on September 26, 2026, the App Store listing showed 4.7 out of 5 from 26 ratings, and the Google Play listing showed 4.7 stars from 639 reviews with 10K+ downloads. These aggregate scores say nothing about specific strengths or problems.

Pricing

MeiGen has no subscription plans; the credit balance you draw from decides which models you can use.

Purchased credits are permanently valid as long as the service keeps operating. Daily free credits do not apply to API keys, MCP generation or the ChatGPT and Codex plugin, so every automated generation request draws on purchased credits.

App Store credit packs

These are in-app purchase prices from the US App Store listing as captured on September 26, 2026. The terms say prices in the apps are set per store and may differ from website prices, and the public web pages checked here do not list website credit prices.

Refunds and credit forfeiture

• Normal use: credits are virtual goods and generally non-refundable, including when you are dissatisfied with AI results.
• Automatic refunds: if credits are deducted but a generation fails because of AI provider errors or platform issues, the credits are refunded automatically.
• Eligible cases: duplicate charges, service interruptions longer than 72 hours, and platform-related unavailability; the refund policy excludes orders purchased more than 30 days ago except in those eligible situations.
• App purchases: credits bought in the iOS or Android app follow Apple's or Google's refund policies and must be requested through the App Store or Google Play.
• Account deletion: deleting your account forfeits any remaining credits, and forfeited credits are not refundable.

Limitations

Free tier boundaries

• Daily free credits cover only basic image models; Agnes Video 2.5 Flash, the only video model daily credits covered, has been temporarily unavailable since 2026-09-22.
• Free accounts have a daily search allowance and a limit on total saved items, and exporting every image in a board at once is a paid feature.

Moderation and prohibited content

Generation requests go through moderation provided by MeiGen's AI model providers plus platform rules, and credits for a rejected request are refunded. The terms prohibit adult content, politically sensitive material, graphic violence and discriminatory content, as well as deepfakes or images of other people made without their permission. The terms also acknowledge that automated systems may occasionally flag legitimate content, in which case users can ask support to review it.

Rights to prompts and outputs

• Users retain full ownership of compliant generated content and receive commercial usage rights, but they also assume all risks associated with commercial use of generated content.
• Gallery works come from other creators on X and from user submissions; creators or rights holders can request removal by email.
• Publishing to the gallery grants MeiGen a license to use the work for promotion and as an example or style reference in current and future product features. Accepted submissions stay in the gallery after account deletion, with personal information removed and the author shown as "MeiGen Community".

Privacy and data handling

• Prompts, reference images, videos, audio and character assets are sent to third-party AI model providers for inference, and each provider handles data under its own privacy and retention policies. The policy says MeiGen does not authorize these providers to use your content for their own marketing; whether they may train on it is not stated.
• For AI assistant features such as AI Edit, image-to-prompt and prompt enhancement, MeiGen keeps detailed call logs for up to 90 days and says this content is not used to train its own AI models.
• Uploaded reference files can have public URLs that anyone with the link may access, even though they are not automatically published in the gallery.
• Account deletion is self-serve on the web and in the app, but archived billing records and security and anti-abuse logs are retained.

Legal terms

• The terms are governed by Wyoming law and send disputes to binding JAMS arbitration with a class action waiver; you can opt out by email within 30 days of first accepting the agreement.
• MeiGen's total liability is capped at the greater of what you paid in the previous 12 months or USD $100.

FAQ

Q1. Is MeiGen free to use?

Browsing the gallery is free, and new accounts get a welcome credit bonus plus daily credits that reset at 00:00 UTC. Daily credits only work on basic models; premium models need welcome or purchased credits.

Q2. Does MeiGen have a subscription I need to cancel?

No. MeiGen sells credits as one-time purchases and does not run subscription, recurring billing or auto-renewal plans.
