What is LilysAI?

LilysAI is an AI research and consulting tool that summarizes, extracts insights, and answers questions based on your materials, not a general chat assistant prompted from scratch. You can upload YouTube links, video/audio files, PDFs, documents, text, and webpages, and live recording minutes are also supported. Sources sit on the left of a project, the report in the middle, and every line points back at where it came from.

Who runs it

The privacy policy names the operator as LilysAI, Inc. together with its affiliates, including LilysAI Korea Inc. The Korean homepage footer identifies the Korean entity in full — 주식회사 릴리스에이아이, representative 오현수, business registration number 355-87-03209, a Seocho-gu address in Seoul — where the English footer stops at "LilysAI, Inc. | admin@lilys.ai". The terms of service exist in Korean only, in force since 3 October 2024; a signed Korean trade report from July 2024 dates the founding to 2023, by engineers previously at Naver, Voyager X and Wrtn.

Scale numbers, and how to read them

Self-reported figures differ by surface: the English homepage says the product is loved by 1.2M+ leaders, investors, researchers, learners, while the company profile on a third-party launch platform still reads "reaching 600,000 users in just one year" — two vendor statements from different dates, not a growth curve. An independent directory estimates roughly 1.3M monthly desktop visits for December 2024 to August 2026, 86.08% from South Korea.

Core features

Summary and Expand

Since the 31 March 2026 redesign, report generation splits in two. Summary covers the types formerly called Detailed, Key and Easy. Expand goes beyond simple summarization, generating Mind Map, Background Knowledge, Counter Perspective, Action Items, Infographic, Animation and Flashcards. Shape is set separately: the Custom menu on the right specifies length, difficulty, and scope.

  • Templates. The Template tab offers 31 different templates designed for study, research, investment, content creation, or daily life; a prompt builds a custom one when none fits. Since the January 2026 refresh you also explore and create from 40 different report types at project creation.
  • Study formats. Textbook & Quiz builds a course note from a PDF textbook or video lesson, then generates multiple-choice, true/false, short answer, and essay questions; flashcards connect every answer to the original sentence or section from your source.

Citations and language handling

Clicking a reference will highlight the corresponding part of the source in the right-hand source viewer, and in that viewer a number acts as a timestamp, so video and audio jump straight to the referenced moment. Underlined terms open a gloss, and you can highlight a word or phrase and click "Explain Clearly" to add a new key term explanation.

Translation reaches the raw material, not only the output: the product offers translation of the original source, not just the summary, and PDF translation preserves the original document layout. When captions are unreliable, Improve Voice Accuracy re-runs the audio, and it is applied automatically whenever you upload a video or audio file.

Agent, search, live capture

  • Agent Lily answers from the note, writes a new note in a format you name, and revises the current note while keeping a copy of the original.
  • Deep Search identifies the key conditions in a request — a date window, a language, a credibility bar — then evaluates the gathered sources based on recency, credibility, and reliability.
  • Live recording gives transcription and speaker separation, plus real-time translation in over 50 languages with no need to set the language in advance.

Reports export to PDF, DOCX, Notion, JSON and Markdown, with switches for source references and timestamps. Sharing has two permission levels: anyone with the link, or link plus password.

Guide

  1. Add a source. Paste a link or upload a file; each file must be under 2GB on every plan.
  2. Pick the report type at creation — Summary to compress, Expand for background, counter-arguments or study material — then tune length, difficulty and scope in the Custom menu.
  3. Verify before trusting. Click a bracketed reference to highlight the matching passage; for video and audio the same click moves the player.
  4. Ask, edit, export. Agent Lily fills gaps and rewrites the note on request; the result leaves as PDF, DOCX, Notion, JSON or Markdown.

Housekeeping that is easy to get wrong

Storage behaves like a cloud drive and only frees up when you delete: a deleted project goes to Trash and the space returns once Trash is emptied. Clicking the "X" on a source tab in the viewer only closes the tab visually, so the file and its storage stay.

Use cases and examples

  • Meetings. Live recording produces transcription and speaker separation in the room and a summary note afterwards, turning an anonymous transcript into attributable minutes.
  • Research at volume. A paper and a commentary video can share one project, and citation-level linking lets a claim be checked against the exact sentence before it enters your writing.
  • Study. One share link from inside a YouTube playlist makes the service detect and summarize the entire playlist as a single source, which Textbook & Quiz then converts into a course note plus self-testing questions.
  • Foreign-language material. Translation applies to the source and PDF layout survives it, so a non-English report keeps its original structure.

An AI PDF summarizer that only returns prose covers half of each of these; what changes the workflow is that report, transcript and original stay linked on one screen.

Who is it for

A good fit when:

  • You read Korean or work with Korean-language sources: an estimated 86.08% of desktop traffic comes from South Korea, and the Korean help centre carries 17 articles on plans and billing against 16 in English, including one the English side does not have.
  • Your material is long and mixed — lecture playlists, recorded meetings, scanned reports — and the summary must survive a fact-check.
  • You want the checking step built in. The value of a YouTube video summarizer here is the jump-to-timestamp link, not the paragraph.

A weaker fit when:

  • You need a team workspace today: account sharing is not allowed under the current terms, and data or a subscription cannot be moved between accounts.
  • Your inputs are short single pages, where citation-linked reports add little value.
  • You need phone support. There is none; support runs through in-app chat, AI agent first, human on request.

The Android build was announced in March 2026 alongside a YouTube channel subscription that generates a summary note automatically whenever a subscribed channel posts. Review volume follows the Korea-first pattern: in the Korean App Store the app carries 4.7 out of 5 across 20 ratings, while the US storefront shows 0 ratings for the same build. Interface, source and summary languages cover English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, French, Indonesian and Vietnamese; the Chrome extension listing declares only two, English and 한국어.

Pricing

Individual tiers are Starter, Basic and Pro, plus a Business plan for teams. The comparison lives on the pricing page, which the help centre flags as desktop-only: the comparison table is not supported on mobile. That page is rendered entirely by client-side script, so per-tier prices and quotas were not captured in this round and no such figures appear here.

RuleWhat the documentation says
Billing cycleAnnual billing offers a 20% discount compared to monthly billing
RenewalPaid plans automatically renew until canceled
CancellationPaid features stay available until the end of the current billing cycle
RefundFull refund only if no paid features were used and the request is within 7 days of payment
UpgradeImmediate and charged immediately, old plan refunded pro rata for the remaining cycle
DowngradeTakes effect after the current billing cycle ends
Cycle switchEffective next billing period, unless no summaries were used within 7 days

The terms restate the refund window more strictly than the help article, allowing withdrawal within seven days of payment only where the paid service has not been used at all. Monthly charges recur on the same calendar date, falling on the last day of any month that lacks it.

Free tier, quotas, team purchase

  • The free tier is a tier, not a trial, but it has a viewing window: on the Free plan you can only view projects and reports created within the last 30 days, and older items are hidden from view, not deleted.
  • Paid is not uncapped: even paid plans have usage limits and you may have used up your monthly allowance, shown in the Usage tab.
  • Quick Summary Boost applies automatically until it runs out and cannot be applied selectively; the Korean help centre adds that it is deducted per source, so a four-source summary costs four.
  • Business bills per seat and includes 50% more file upload and storage capacity compared to the Basic plan; a shared Team Space is listed as coming soon.
  • A group subscription covers Starter, Basic or Pro in one payment, and subscribing for 5 or more users or for a period of 1 year or longer earns a 20% discount off the regular price.
  • Deleting the account cancels the subscription immediately, and a refund request must be submitted before deletion.

Alternatives to LilysAI

Anyone comparing LilysAI alternatives is choosing between three product shapes, and their documented limits differ more than the marketing does.

  • Gemini Notebook, the renamed NotebookLM, is closest on intent. Its published ceiling is 500,000 words per source or up to 200MB for local uploads with no page limit — well below the per-file ceiling here, which matters for recordings more than documents. It also requires age verification on the Google account and offers no way to recover deleted notes.
  • Podcast-only tools trade breadth for depth: one such product turns every episode into summaries, transcripts, mind maps, and insights, the same output menu on one medium.
  • Knowledge workspaces sit on the other side, positioned as an LLM-powered workspace for research, strategy, and creative work, built for material accumulated over months rather than one dense source needed now.

No independent English-language review was found through the review platforms, trade media and community channels checked on 17 September 2026, so the comparison rests on published limits.

Limitations

Quotas and source handling

Storage is cumulative and recoverable; processing time is not. Upload time resets every month based on your billing date, but once time is used, it cannot be restored — even if you delete the file, with server and API costs given as the reason.

  • Image-only PDFs cannot be translated until OCR'd elsewhere; the official answer is to find a free OCR service by searching for "PDF OCR" in a search engine, then re-upload.
  • Very recent uploads can fail because YouTube may not have generated subtitles yet; members-only and private videos cannot be accessed at all.
  • Website summarization may fail due to access restrictions, with the Chrome extension offered as the workaround; corporate networks can block the service outright.

Account and legal boundaries

Account sharing is not allowed under the current terms, and the fair-use clause goes further: where unusually heavy usage or shared login details are reasonably suspected, the account may be blocked or permanently deleted without prior notice and with no refund. Data and subscriptions cannot be transferred between accounts.

The age rules do not line up across channels, and this page does not resolve them. The help centre says users under the age of 14 are not allowed to use the service, while article 4 of the terms says a user under that age may create an account where a parent or legal guardian consents, and separately requires guardian consent for anyone under 19 entering a paid contract.

The terms also state that the company does not guarantee the legality, originality, exclusivity, reliability, accuracy, truthfulness, usability or fitness for a particular purpose of AI outputs, and does not warrant that results do not infringe anyone's copyright or other intellectual property.

Data handling and model training

All intellectual property rights a member holds in their content remain with the member, notes stay private until shared, and the homepage states that data is fully encrypted in transit and never used for AI model training, with SOC 2 certification in progress — the Korean security page specifies Type II.

The wording on training is not identical across pages. The Korean security page states that because models run under enterprise contracts with Microsoft, Google and Anthropic, user input is not used for AI model training, and names AWS RDS for storage and Firebase Auth for authentication. The English privacy policy qualifies it: content is not used to train foundation AI models without your explicit consent, and a separate Korean consent page says service-improvement data is never used for AI model training even where the user agreed. Only the English policy leaves a consent-shaped opening.

That policy lists AI model providers — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, Soniox, Groq and pyannote AI — as processing submitted content to produce the outputs you request, and keeps payment records up to 5 years and consumer dispute records up to 3 years.

FAQ

Q1. Is LilysAI free, and what does the free tier lose?

You can start for free and keep your data, but on the Free plan you can only view projects and reports created within the last 30 days. Older projects are hidden rather than deleted and reappear on resubscribing.

Q2. How large a file can I upload?

For all plans, each file must be under 2GB. Total storage depends on the plan, and those figures live on the pricing page, which was not captured this round.

Q3. Can I get my money back?

Only if no paid features were used and the request comes within 7 days of payment. Upgrades are different: the old plan is refunded pro rata automatically.

Q4. Will my uploads train AI models?

The Korean security page says user input is not used for AI model training; the English privacy policy says content is not used to train foundation AI models without your explicit consent. The two wordings differ in scope.

Q5. Can a team share one account?

No. Account sharing is not allowed under the current terms, and suspected credential sharing can end in the account being blocked or permanently deleted without notice and without a refund.
