What is BytePlus?

BytePlus is an enterprise AI cloud that sells model APIs, agent services and compute to businesses and developers. Its homepage pitch is to build, deploy and scale AI with models, tools and infrastructure that the company says are proven on global platforms.

The company says it was born from ByteDance's technology. Its Terms of Service name BytePlus Pte. Ltd., a company incorporated in Singapore, as the provider of the services.

The AI line centers on BytePlus ModelArk, which BytePlus calls a one-stop large language model service platform. Through one ModelArk account you can call ByteDance's Seed language models, Seedance video models and Seedream image models alongside third-party models such as DeepSeek and GLM, paying per token, per image or per hour of dedicated capacity.

  • Pricing: pay-as-you-go in USD, model by model, plus a Coding Plan for AI coding tools from 10 USD per month.
  • Access: a published country list and region-scoped endpoints in Johor or Dublin.
  • Cautions: no real-face uploads to Seedance 2.x without verified authorization, non-refundable Coding Plan fees, and rate limits that are not guaranteed.

Core features

Beyond chat and reasoning, ModelArk's document understanding accepts PDFs and replies based on their content. Web search lets models obtain real-time knowledge from the internet, and function calling connects them to your own tools.

Language models from ByteDance and other providers

  • Seed 2.0 family: Dola Seed 2.0 is described as the flagship general-purpose agentic model, built for complex reasoning and long-chain, multi-step task execution.
  • Third-party models: the service terms split the catalog into proprietary model services run by model providers and services built on publicly available open-source models, and DeepSeek, GLM and GPT-OSS models are listed next to Seed.
  • Long context: GLM-5.2, GLM-5.3-Flash and the DeepSeek V4 models support 1M context windows for long sessions over large codebases.

Video generation with Seedance

Dreamina Seedance 2.5, the mainline model behind the Seedance API, supports native 30-second video generation and up to 50 total reference assets per generation across images, videos and audio.

Only successfully generated videos are billed, so a request blocked by content moderation costs nothing.

Image, 3D and speech models

  • Seedream images: Dola Seedream 5.0 is described as offering enhanced reference consistency and improved generation quality for professional scenarios, with pro, flash and lite versions plus older Seedream 4.x and SeedEdit models.
  • 3D generation: a 3D model generates high-precision 3D assets with polygon meshes and PBR materials.
  • Text-to-speech: Seed-TTS 2.0 is pitched as creating authentic human speech with emotion and context.
  • Voice replication: a separate SeedTTS model is marketed as replicating voices across multiple languages.
  • Speech recognition: Seed-ASR 2.0 handles speech-to-text.

Agents and ready-made applications

  • Managed Agents: each agent session runs in a cloud-isolated sandbox that can execute code, read and write files and run command-line tools, and the sandbox is reclaimed when the session ends.
  • AgentKit: an enterprise agent platform covering identity control, toolchains, runtimes and governance.
  • Lumina: an all-in-one AI productivity tool aimed at creators.
  • Kickart: a one-stop e-commerce marketing agent.

Cloud infrastructure behind the models

BytePlus positions its infrastructure as an end-to-end cloud for AI, from training to serving, with built-in security and control.

Guide

Making a first ModelArk API call

  1. Pick a region and create an API key there; API keys and model activation status are isolated by region.
  2. Activate the models you need. With one-click activation turned on, newly added models and versions join your activated services automatically, and no charges apply unless you actually use a model.
  3. Send requests to the base URL of the region where your inference endpoint lives, because an endpoint in one region cannot be called through another region's URL.
  4. Check your limits on the model activation page, which shows requests per minute and tokens per minute for the account and its sub-accounts, and request increases in the console.

Using real people in Seedance videos

For Seedance 2.5 and 2.0, the documentation offers two routes for portraits. A preset digital character library supplies portrait assets for scenes that need a realistic face without naming a specific person. For a named person, their image, video and audio can be uploaded to ModelArk after real-person verification and that person's authorization, and each stored asset receives its own asset ID for generation calls.

BytePlus use cases and examples

  • Advertising and e-commerce content: a Media Agent combines OmniHuman, voice, image and video models to produce professional content for advertisements, e-commerce product content and media productions.
  • Research agents: the DeepResearch platform is pitched for building agents such as investment advisors, KYC, market research and product design assistants.
  • Knowledge search: AI Knowledge Search manages multimodal knowledge in a centrally managed knowledge base and adds search and reasoning tools for employees.
  • Video understanding: vision-language and speech models are applied to video captioning, content moderation and real-time video analytics.
  • Retail avatars: a vendor case study credits a BytePlus digital avatar with a 20% sales uplift at Yamada Denki. The figure comes from BytePlus's own marketing, not an independent audit.

Who is it for

BytePlus suits buyers who want ByteDance's models through an official enterprise channel, even when the rest of the stack lives elsewhere.

  • Product teams building on Seedance or Seedream: one reported example is Vietnamese AI platform Diaflow, which uses BytePlus for Seedance and other models while keeping its databases, compute and core applications on another cloud, with the relationship described as "strictly at the model and API layer."
  • Cost-sensitive LLM users: Seed mini and DeepSeek Flash input prices sit well under 1 USD per million tokens.
  • Individual developers: the Coding Plan targets individual development such as personal projects, learning and practice, and tool building, while BytePlus points enterprise-grade needs to its model APIs.

It is a weaker fit for buyers outside the supported country list, for workloads that need fine-tuned model weights exported, and for anyone expecting refundable monthly subscriptions.

Platforms

ModelArk is used through its API and web console, and currently runs in two regions:

RegionRegion IDModels
Johor, Asia Pacificap-southeast-1Every model in the model list
Dublin, Europeeu-west-1A subset, listed inconsistently (see below)

The EU model list is inconsistent between pages. The region page says the EU region currently supports seed-2-0-lite, while the model list says the seed-2-0 and seedream-5-0-lite models are also supported in eu-west-1.

Country coverage is narrower than the region list suggests. Apart from Restricted Models, BytePlus Model Service is available only in a published list of countries and regions, and availability is determined at the point of purchase. The United States does not appear on the list captured on September 28, 2026, which runs from the United Kingdom straight to Uruguay. India is also absent, with Iceland followed directly by Indonesia. Support is offered in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and English, and documentation articles are in English.

For AI coding, the Coding Plan works with Claude Code, OpenCode, OpenClaw, TraeCode, Cline, Cursor, Codex, Roo Code and Kilo Code, and quota is shared across those tools. It exposes both an OpenAI-compatible and an Anthropic-compatible base URL.

Pricing

Features and unit prices vary with model services, so there is no single ModelArk price sheet. The homepage advertises free image and video tokens to experience models and headline prices as low as 0.03 USD per image and 0.05 USD per video. All figures below are list prices in USD as captured on September 28, 2026, and the availability terms note that model versions can differ by country or region.

Language models (standard online inference, per million tokens)

ModelInputOutputCondition
seed-2-0-pro0.503.00Prompts up to 128K tokens
seed-2-0-mini0.100.40Prompts up to 128K tokens
glm-5-21.44.4Single tier
deepseek-v4-1-flash0.150.60Off-peak hours
deepseek-v4-1-flash0.301.20Peak hours

Longer prompts move Seed models into a higher tier. DeepSeek V4.1 Flash peak hours are Monday to Friday, 09:00–12:00 and 14:00–18:00 (UTC+8), and the console displays the peak price. Flex online inference charges roughly 50% of standard input and output prices, and batch inference also runs at lower rates, for example 0.125 USD input and 1.00 USD output per million tokens for seed-2-0-lite-260228.

Video and image generation

Seedance 2.5 costs 10.70 USD per million tokens for 480p and 720p output without input video, and 11.7 USD per million tokens at 1080p without input video; offline inference is not supported yet. Estimated token use for a clip is (input video duration + output video duration) × width × height × frame rate ÷ 1024, and the billed figure is the usage the API returns. Until 14:00 (UTC+8) on October 7, 2026, Seedance 2.0 mini is 60% off list and 2.0 fast 25% off list for enterprise users.

Seedream 5.0 pro charges 0.045 USD per output image up to about 2.61 million pixels and 0.09 USD above that. Its first input image is free and each further input image costs 0.003 USD. Seedream 5.0 flash costs 0.018 USD per image and Seedream 4.0 costs 0.03 USD.

Coding Plan, agents and dedicated capacity

Coding Plan1 month3 months
Lite10 USD30 USD
Pro50 USD150 USD

Lite allows up to about 1,900 requests every 5 hours, 12,000 per week and 24,000 per subscription month; Pro raises that to about 9,500, 60,000 and 120,000. A single prompt in a coding tool often triggers several model calls, so requests run out faster than prompts. Once purchased, a Coding Plan subscription cannot be refunded, even if the quota goes unused. Automatic renewal has to be cancelled at least 7 days before the next billing date to avoid the renewal charge.

Managed Agents add 0.08 USD per hour of running sandbox time and 0.006 USD per web search on top of model tokens, while web fetch is free for a limited time. Dedicated model units cost 4.20 USD per hour or 2800.00 USD per month for the Flavor-A machine type, and the feature is a beta open only to invited users.

BytePlus alternatives

  • Amazon Bedrock: AWS says Bedrock gives access to hundreds of foundation models from leading AI companies, with evaluation tools for picking one. An AI tools directory's comparison frames Bedrock and Google Vertex AI as hyperscalers that aggregate many vendors' models on their own clouds, while BytePlus is narrower and first-party as the official enterprise channel for Seedance, Seedream and Seed Speech.
  • fal.ai: a generative media platform for developers with more than 1,000 image, video, audio and 3D models; its gallery lists Seedance 2.5 image-to-video, so the same model family can also be reached outside BytePlus.

Limitations

  • Real faces in Seedance: Seedance 2.5 and Seedance 2.0 series models do not accept directly uploaded reference images or videos that contain real human faces.
  • Rate limits are ceilings, not promises: all rate limits in the model list are theoretical maximum values that are not guaranteed and will be affected by platform load and invocation method.
  • Prepaid balance: if an account stays in arrears for 2 hours, model services are suspended until it is recharged.
  • Coding Plan scope: quota works only inside supported AI coding tools and cannot be used for API calls; using its base URL and key elsewhere may be treated as abuse and lead to subscription deactivation or account suspension.
  • Preview models: DeepSeek-V4-Pro is an early-access preview, and BytePlus suggests switching models if access congestion or frequent rate-limit errors occur.
  • Third-party model terms: using a proprietary model service means agreeing to that provider's own terms, which bind you and the provider directly.
  • Delisting: BytePlus may suspend or terminate a service immediately if a model is delisted or discontinued, for example when its agreement with the model provider ends.
  • Fine-tuned models stay on the platform: fine-tuned models must remain deployed on the AI services, and you have no right to download, copy or export them.
  • Copyright scrutiny around Seedance: after Seedance 2.0's release, Hollywood studios objected to viral clips that appeared to show copyrighted characters and celebrity likenesses, and ByteDance said it was taking steps to strengthen safeguards against unauthorized use of intellectual property and likeness. The dispute concerned the model, not BytePlus contracts.

Data handling and rights

  • Data location: ModelArk may use data centers in Malaysia, Indonesia and the EU/EEA for model deployment and customer data processing.
  • Cross-region routing: requests are mainly routed to the endpoint's own region, but some may be routed to inference resources in other regions based on overall resource scheduling.
  • Training: unless you separately opt in, BytePlus will not use your data to train models.
  • Content-filter retention: inputs and outputs that trigger the content filter are retained for 180 days in Malaysia.
  • Encryption: with optional application-layer end-to-end encryption enabled, customer data is decrypted only once it arrives in the ModelArk sandbox.
  • Certifications: the trust materials list ISO 27001, ISO 27017, ISO 27018, ISO 27701, MTCS Level 3, CSA STAR, SOC 1–3 and PCI DSS, among others.
  • Output ownership: as between you and BytePlus, you own the output generated from your input to the extent permitted by law, and BytePlus does not claim ownership of it.
  • Likeness and voice: you are responsible for obtaining the rights needed for any materials you use, including rights relating to a person's likeness, image or voice.
  • AI labeling: publishing generated content must follow applicable law, including any labeling or disclosure requirements for AI-generated content.
