ActiveCampaign is a marketing automation platform for email campaigns, automated customer journeys and connected sales follow-up. Operated by ActiveCampaign, LLC, it uses customer interaction data to personalize communications around people's interests. Its central AI workspace, Active Intelligence, helps create campaigns, build automations and analyze insights within the same account.
The product connects message creation with what happens after a contact clicks, buys or enters a sales process. Email marketing is one part of that system: branching journeys, CRM tasks, mobile access and external AI connections extend the work beyond writing a newsletter. The relevant buying boundary is the combination of contact allowance, marketing tier and separately offered channels or CRM capabilities.
ActiveCampaign says Active Intelligence analyzes the previous 365 days of campaign sends each week and uses that analysis in new drafts. The stated purpose is to identify content structures associated with higher click rates and patterns that audiences have stopped responding to. This is the vendor's description of how account history informs generation, rather than an independently measured improvement in campaign results.
Industry comparisons also depend on account context. Active Intelligence can compare open and click rates with industry medians using the industry in the Brand Kit; when that field is unset, it uses an overall platform baseline. A benchmark against a specified industry and one against the platform as a whole therefore have different reference populations.
Active Intelligence also offers creation and refinement of campaign visuals. This puts image work alongside campaign copy, but access to generative content and images still follows the marketing plan's feature boundaries. The AI workspace, a particular generation feature and the account's credit balance are separate parts of access.
Active Intelligence includes a sidebar chat opened through its icon. The product also supports references to a specific automation inside a prompt, which gives a request an identifiable object rather than relying only on a similar campaign name.
@ in the prompt and select the automation to reference. An asset reference directs the request to an existing account item. In a journey with similarly named automations, it identifies which one the question concerns.
Ecommerce automations can email contacts who leave items in a cart without completing their purchase. The input is a shopping event, and the resulting communication concerns that unfinished purchase. This is a specific use of behavior-based journeys rather than a claim that every campaign will recover the same share of orders.
ActiveCampaign's education offering includes automated onboarding sequences that introduce course materials to new students. Enrollment provides the occasion for the sequence, and the messages support the learner's first contact with the course. This gives the workflow a different purpose from a sales prospecting sequence, even when both use email and automation.
Personalized one-to-one emails and notifications can be automated from customer actions in the CRM offering. This fits follow-up where a sales conversation needs context from what a contact has done, rather than treating the contact only as a member of a broad campaign audience. The enhanced CRM access described under Pricing determines which sales capabilities are available.
ActiveCampaign offers an iOS and Android mobile application. The stated mobile functions include reviewing email reports, tracking customer activity and managing CRM data. That makes mobile access relevant to checking results and maintaining customer records away from a desk; it does not establish that every desktop campaign-building control is reproduced on a phone.
The public USD catalogue captured on November 1, 2026 lists the following prices for 1,000 contacts. The yearly column is the total for a twelve-month billing interval, not a monthly charge.
| Marketing plan | Monthly billing | Yearly billing total | Monthly email sends at 1,000 contacts | Included user seats |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $19 | $180 | 10,000 | 1 |
| Plus | $59 | $588 | 10,000 | 1 |
| Pro | $99 | $948 | 12,000 | 3 |
| Enterprise | $179 | $1,740 | 15,000 | 5 |
The send allowances scale as multiples of the contact limit: Starter and Plus list ten times that limit, Pro twelve times and Enterprise fifteen times.
Plus lists generative AI for content and images, landing pages and site messages. Pro lists predictive sending, conditional content, advanced segmentation, and attribution and conversion tracking.
Pipelines and Sales Engagement are enhanced-CRM add-ons for Plus, Pro and Enterprise; neither is available on Starter. Sales Engagement includes the Pipelines add-on's capabilities and adds automated one-to-one email and win probability. A marketing plan price therefore does not by itself describe the cost of the complete sales workflow.
For accounts created on or after November 3, 2025, all contacts count toward the contact limit regardless of list status. For accounts created on or before November 2, 2025, only active contacts count. An unsubscribed or bounced contact can therefore still occupy allowance in the newer account group.
A 14-day free trial is offered without a credit card. Trial accounts start with 100 AI credits and cannot add credit packs.
Every ActiveCampaign plan includes 500 AI credits per month. Reseller accounts are currently not subject to AI credits. Credits are pooled across account users rather than assigned separately to each user. Included credits reset at the start of each monthly usage period and do not roll over, so an unused balance does not accumulate into a larger future allowance.
Extra packs contain 100 AI credits and start at $10 per month. This recurring charge is separate from contact and email-send capacity. The service terms make AI credits non-transferable and non-refundable.
Cancellation must come from the designated account owner or an authorized signatory. Under the service terms it takes effect at the end of the current subscription period, and inactivity alone does not cancel the subscription. Charges continue unless the subscription is cancelled through the stated process.
The 30-day money-back promotion applies to a first subscription purchase rather than subsequent purchases. The offer applies to paid subscriptions registered during its promotion window, which began on February 4, 2026. ActiveCampaign may end it at any time and will post a termination date; claims are not accepted after that date. Its process requires completed cancellation and a refund request through the support-ticket system within the first 30 days; the request must refer to the guarantee. Refunds use the invoiced currency. A cancellation on its own does not complete that refund process.
The guarantee excludes one-time purchases, SMS and WhatsApp credits including recurring subscriptions, and ActiveCampaign HQ subscriptions and related services. It is valid only for payments due upon receipt.
Customers must qualify to use the Services. The eligibility conditions cover the customer and its parent, subsidiary and affiliated entities. Current or former paid subscribers are ineligible. The same applies to current or former employees, contractors or consultants of ActiveCampaign or its subsidiaries and their family members.
Further exclusions cover paused subscriptions, suspended or terminated access, third-party subscriptions, chargebacks, missing satisfactory eligibility evidence, violations or suspected violations of the terms, and deceptive, inappropriate or promotion-disrupting conduct. Other promotions or special offers cannot be combined with it unless ActiveCampaign approves otherwise at its sole discretion. Refunds are at ActiveCampaign's sole discretion, and the offer is void where prohibited.
Brevo offers workflow triggers and cross-channel campaigns spanning email and SMS. The overlap is in campaign workflows; it does not establish that the two products have identical CRM access, AI allowances or automation controls.
Klaviyo describes flows combining email, SMS and push notifications with consolidated reporting. The compared capability is a multi-channel flow and its reporting, rather than a conclusion that its pricing or data model is interchangeable with ActiveCampaign's.
Starter action ceiling: Starter allows five actions per automation; the higher marketing tiers list unlimited actions. This is a limit on the steps in an automation, separate from the number of contacts in the account.
Monthly sends: The terms state that reaching the monthly send limit prevents further messages, including scheduled messages, until the next monthly usage period. An existing schedule does not bypass the send allowance.
Credit exhaustion: When AI credits run out, advanced capabilities and enhanced context pause while core capabilities switch to their standard versions. “Active Intelligence keeps working” consequently does not mean that every AI function continues unchanged.
Scheduled AI work: Core capabilities run through scheduled tasks pause once AI credits are exhausted. They resume when credits reset or a pack is added.
AI actions at zero credits: Contacts skip AI Action Library actions and continue through the rest of the automation.
The terms warn that AI features can produce incorrect information and require review before output is used, shared or relied on. That is a vendor-stated restriction on use, rather than evidence that a generated campaign has already been checked for accuracy, recipient suitability or legal rights.
ActiveCampaign does not claim ownership of prompts or marketing content generated through its AI features. The user remains responsible for the material and for having the necessary rights. The absence of a vendor ownership claim is narrower than a promise that every output is legally protectable or cleared of third-party rights.
For marketing content more generally, users retain rights as between themselves and ActiveCampaign, subject to the service license. That license is nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, fully paid and sublicensable, and permits uses such as reproduction, adaptation, translation and display to the designated audience or according to account settings. Retaining rights and granting this operational license coexist in the terms.
The Active Intelligence help text says customer data and marketing content are not used to train AI models. The service terms separately permit viewing, copying and internal use of marketing content to train and improve the services and to detect issues. The statements use different scopes: one specifically addresses AI-model training, while the other reserves broader service-improvement uses. They do not support a blanket claim that customer content is never used internally.
The public privacy policy distinguishes information about the platform's clients from Contact Data processed on their behalf. For that processor role, it says the client's privacy policy applies and processing is governed by the agreements with the client. A customer's imported mailing list is therefore not covered by simply treating the public website privacy notice as the complete processing agreement.
Cancellation is also separate from immediate deletion of every record. The privacy policy allows information to be retained as needed for legal obligations, dispute resolution and enforcement of agreements after an account is cancelled. Its retention language is purpose-based rather than a single deletion deadline for all information.
No. The AI credit pool belongs to the account and is shared across users. Extra user seats do not establish a separate included AI allowance for each person.
Yes. The ChatGPT and Claude connectors support account operations such as checking performance and updating CRM data. These are documented connection capabilities, with the account's underlying access boundaries still relevant.
No. The money-back promotion has a separate request process and eligibility conditions. Its terms require both completed cancellation and a support-ticket refund request within the specified window.
